Watson is a simple man, who needs to feel wanted and to be given a defined role (we all work with someone like that...hell, I am like that)

Ponting gave him both and the results were fine.
This is something I don't get, the results were never fine with Watson apart from maybe in T20 cricket, both in ODI cricket and Test cricket he has wasted numerous starts and that is something that is criminal for a guy who bats high up in the order, his conditioning or general lack of athleticism could be one of the main reasons for that, but what it certainly has done is make him a soft injury prone cricketer.

Also Watson is averaging somewhere around 25 in test cricket as a batsman over the last two years and lets be honest over the last few years we have dropped batsmen with better numbers than those in a heartbeat. Its definitely Watson's bowling that gave him an edge over other pure batsmen, but he now has given up bowling too. With numbers like that he should feel lucky to be still be in the side and rather than throwing tantrums he should have been trying to do whatever was required by the team.

Watson with the kind of things he is trying to say in the media is trying to project himself as a victim in this situation, which is totally not the case and any fan of Australian cricket would surely have to side with Arthur/Clarke on this, because this is much bigger than some players not doing their homework.

It's not about whether Haddin should be playing, as such.

Having him play as a specialist batsman would be completely absurd given he's a better keeper than Wade. If he plays, he keeps. If he bats ahead of Wade and doesn't keep wicket then I just won't have the words.
So you'd rather muddy the makeup of the Aus XI even further? Wade is the no. 1 keeper and Haddin is only in India as cover because of his injury.

The axings leave Haddin as one of 13 potentially fit and available players which means, based on his good batting form and Smith's lack thereof, he is a strong chance to play even if Wade is fit.

However, to play both Wade and Haddin yet hand the gloves to the latter for a Test or two (regardless of whether he is a better gloveman) would create further unnecessary confusion about the strongest XI. But, yeah, that is just what the side needs.

pup11, when was the last time you saw Marsh bat?

I mean actually watched, not just a scorecard.
I have seen enough of him off late and he's batting like he always has, on his day he can make batting look very easy but the problem is at that at the first-class and international level he has had a very few days like those, his body is fragile too and even currently he is out for few months with a hamstring problem.

The thing is you rate Marsh and I don't, but that doesn't make either of our opinions irrelevant, you are entitled to have your opinion same as I'm entitled to have mine.

Surprised no one has brought up a potential level 2 breach of the ICC code of conduct...

"Any attempt to manipulate an International Match for inappropriate strategic or tactical reasons."

I think it's obvious Australia were going to thrash India in the 3rd Test until 4 of the players were suspended

btw, it takes a level 2 breach to be suspended for a Test Match (or 2 ODI's)

Pattinson is the only one who *could* go on to be that important for Australia as KP is to Eng. Already is, actually.

Leaving aside the homework nazis for a moment, I find it pretty ridiculous how the management has deflected all criticism off the shoddy selection policy in effect on this tour. From a job-saving perspective, you have to hand it to Arthur and co., now they can always blame less than perfect work ethic for the crap performances. And hey, look, we did something about it too!
While I think he's a bit of a tit I don't think he's that cynical. Even if he tried to pull that excuse after a while people will ask him just who is responsible for instilling a good work ethic. Eventually all fingers will point back to him.

@ESPNcricinfo: Matthew Wade appears unlikely for the Mohali Test after struggling with his injured ankle on match-eve drills. #IndvAus

I don't like him and would normally never want him near the test team again but this is a crisis and I'd pick Marsh for a batting spot. He does allright in these conditions, probably better than anyone else bar Clarke. But thats it though. Back home straight away after the last test.

mo matthews made a great point tonight about lyon being dropped to work on some things and then him coming out and saying he had nothing to work on. puts a different light on that now.

but having said that, if lyon can get dropped to work on a few things for someone the world thought would never play another test, why can't wade?
