Superb bowling by Bresnan this innings. Watching him in this Test it's clear the speed gun isn't telling the whole story. He's caused set batsmen all sorts of problems with an oldish ball which he gets to move in the air and off the pitch in consistently surprising ways. It's not just the 'heaviness' of the ball he delivers (although I agree with the commentators about that). It's something more - similar in some respects to Bracewell and to Watson (when he cranks it up a little). Impressive stuff.

Broad and Anderson are effective with the old ball too but he seems to have perhaps a few more tricks. I would have loved to see Finn against the South Africans but suspect that Bresnan's older ball skills would be sorely needed against the likes of Kallis (who softens you up and breaks your spirits by occupying the crease) and de Villiers (who takes the game away from you). Then again now I think of it young Cummins recently showed that Finn-like pace and aggression can trouble even someone like Kallis. Nice problem to have.

Here's a question for you all. Given the WI's current situation, effectively 81/8 with Samuels the only recognised batsman at the crease, would you prefer that he tries to keep the strike, refusing singles if necessary, and potentially reducing England's target?

Or should he take everything he can get at this point and hope that Roach and Rampaul somehow do an Ambrose and Walsh and bowl out England for 45?

England have a lot of injury prone quicks as well though. Tremlett has had lots of problems, and Bresnan and Broad have missed a fair bit of cricket in the last year or so.

No, because all it means is he's had an injury that's kept him out for half a season, isn't it?
Well in Cummins case it was one injury. Pattinson got injured in Australia and missed the rest of the India series then left the tour to WI injured later in the year. More than 1 injury and in a short space of time. I bet CA are looking into everything Pattinson does to see if there is a link. Hope I am wrong but i'd be worried like I am about Tremlett that he may have a body that constantly breaks down.

It doesn't surprise me that someone coming back from a foot injury gets a back injury. People alter their gait and it throws their backs out.

Not saying tat from a sporting perspective but from a general POV dealing with injured clients.

I am very impressed with Samuels. He's shown fantastic determination in comparison to the gutless efforts of most of his peers.
