Depends when. He'd be in a no-win situation if there were only another 30 or less needed.England to win without losing a wicket. They should send Bairstow in at 3 if they lose an opener though.
Tbf, Cook looks hopelessly out of formFine line between being too defensive and seeing off the new ball here.
the match seems to be heading for a draw
exactly....the pitch will be getting flatter from now
England will take their time to build a team and then WI will bat for at least another day which would barely leave England a session or two to chase something like 150-200...hence draw
there is something called reading the match and conditions which you surely lack
Strauss was defensive too. For the Windies it is a lost cause but no reason not to go all out attack. No slips in place? I got kicked off the telly but wow, that is atrociously defensive from Sammy by the sounds of it. Aren't they trying to win?
Presumably grateful I have a long-standing personal ban on avatar bets.
Wouldn't say hopelessly out of form, had a good knock in the last test, just doesn't look at his best.Tbf, Cook looks hopelessly out of form
Strauss has always been a defensive captain, in my eyes not the most tactically astute of cricketing minds. Sammy being defensive here defies all logic. I'd have catchers everywhere, they're going to need to have someone on the end of every single opportunity they get- even if it is a little late now, show some intent.Strauss was defensive too. For the Windies it is a lost cause but no reason not to go all out attack.
Wish I'd noticed he'd offered up his avatar.Presumably grateful I have a long-standing personal ban on avatar bets.
You Nick Knight? No slips in place? I got kicked off the telly but wow, that is atrociously defensive from Sammy by the sounds of it. Aren't they trying to win?
Always had slips in, apart from trying to get Samuels off strike at the end. I actually think he's been fairly attacking all test match for him, it was even mentioned in the comms box on a couple of occasions.Strauss was defensive too. For the Windies it is a lost cause but no reason not to go all out attack.
And apart from the Asian tests he's been able to call the shots by and large.Strauss has always been defensive. When you hear the bowlers talk, if they're not getting wickets they then try to reign the scoring in to under 3/po and then wait on the mistake. Its been working for them for a while so its hard to complain.
They only part i don't like is the setting men on the boundary to get tail enders on strike. It hasn't worked pretty much ever (see Dhoni last year, Samuels this) yet Strauss continues to do it.
Yes don't like it either but it's almost become the norm for Test sides the last few years.Strauss has always been defensive. When you hear the bowlers talk, if they're not getting wickets they then try to reign the scoring in to under 3/po and then wait on the mistake. He was able to call the shots in those Tests as well, we were all over Sri Lanka and Pakistan in the field. And apart from the Asian tests he's been able to call the shots by and large.
