English Domestic Season 2011

Based on last season with Mahmood and Chapple yet to bat some might suggest the best was yet to come
Absolutely, good time for someone such as Mahmood to bat, with what should be a decent lead on the board by the time he gets to the crease, allowing him to play his positive brand of cricket. Think the balance of the side looks much better with Tom Smith coming in down the order also, as averse to opening.

Young Liam Norwell wrapped up the Derbyshire innings, taking the last four wickets with the batting side adding just nine runs in that time, after the first innings they trail by an imposing 186 runs. Could be a handsome opening victory for John Bracewell's young guns.

Glamorgan making a admirable fightback against Leicester, having conceded a 92-run deficit, they have reduced Leicester to 44 for 5 in their second innings. Will Jefferson the only man resisting on 28 not out. James Taylor gone for 14.

Other notable fightbacks include Northants who were 163-7 (Surrey having made 322) until captain Andrew Hall and James Middlebrook were joined at the crease. The score now 264-7. Any lead Surrey were hoping for quickly diminishing.

Ryan Sidebottom and Gerard Brophy doing an excellent job aswell in getting Yorkshire a lead, which looked most unlikely at 155-7. Partnership now 114, Siddy 42 not out, Brophy 111 not out.

Difficult to know who is going to win in the Worcestershire v Yorkshire match. both sides have collapsed to be rescued by the lower order. Brophy getting runs is a bonus, not sure how many matches he will play seeing as Bairstow has the gloves, probably only in because McGrath is out.

Sidebottom 50 up.

Notts 7/487 declared - Ali Brown cruising to an unbeaten ton.

Now got half an hour of Fletcher, Carter and Pattinson vs the students' top order. Going to need to make them play a little more if they're going to get the desired wickets...

Looking at the sides, I still fancy Yorkshire, just think they have more penetration in that attack. Worcester struggling to break this partnership seem to be lacking that penetrative bowler, an area I think where Yorkshire do have better options. But of course should there be any deterioration then Yorks are going to have to bat last on it. So having started this post with a degree of certainty that Yorkshire will get home, I agree that it is difficult to know who's going to win!

I was under the impression that Root had come into the side for McGrath today.
Possibly and with the way it has gone then Brophy will keep his place but using him as a specialist bat when his career average is 32 means he is on borrowed time in the team in my opinion.

Who's this Liam Norwell bloke? I know it's only Derbyshire, but taking 6 wickets on debut is very impressive imo.

No idea, but considering Gloucestershire's side this has been some performance from them.

Ben Stokes gets a Michelle, wonder how long before people start talking England, batsman who can bowl a bit, kind of what we're after.

Durham wrap up Hampshire's first innings quickly this morning taking 3 wickets for 14 runs. Ben Stokes getting his first 5 wicket haul for the first team (his final figures were 6 for 68 from 13 overs). Hampshire made 294 in reply to Durham's 473. I'd imagine Durham will enforce the followon

shows how much i know, Durham haven't enforced the follow on, and take to the field, with Scott Borthwick promoted to open in place of the injured Mark Stoneman (who has tweeted this pic - http://yfrog.com/gyxo6lnj )....they've tried opening with Scott before, and it's not been a massive success so far

I'm guessing they haven't enforced because of the injury to GBH, and Plunkers being predictably ****.

not a great sight...Simon Jones leaves the field after only the third over, with what looks like a problem with his groin

I hope it's nothing but a slight twinge for Jones, he deserves a bit of luck, nothing seems to go right for him.

Cork off as well it would seem, looks like we are starting this season as terribly as the last.

Stokes takes a 6-fer to dismiss Hants, including the last three in one over. I'm told he's grown a fair bit recently and upped himself from medium to medium-fast, which is interesting. In to bat now, 11*.
