well if you aren't english or australian i supose you would say that. i also saw quite a bit of that series and would not say south africa or india'sand the ashes was tame stuff compared to the sa/ind series.
Yep, Turner and Sutcliffe were complete rubbish.nowadays?
The Enzeds have always had mud batsmen in their ranks, Donnelly, JF Reid and Crowe aside.
ALWAYS.
As slowfinger said, Fardin was a member who passed away. He was very young, played cricket in America and had wonderful energy. He is missed.By the way NZTailender I notice in your sig and also in honestbharani's sig this message R.I.P. Fardin. What is this for???
You & me both Volts & I've been like that for a while now. I have absoutely no expectations whatsoever & if they do play with an ounce of guts & determination from time to time i.e first 2 test vs India, that's a bonus. As for the game, I've reached the delightful stage of not actually caring about this NZ side. I saw the score when I got home yesterday (70-odd/7 at the time) and just shrugged my shoulders. They don't deserve my support until they play anywhere near their ability.
Same here mate. I've given up on supporting the blackcaps.Yep, Turner and Sutcliffe were complete rubbish.

The pitch was still pretty good. Of the first 5 wickets to fall:Was staggered by the collapse by New Zealand when I saw the outcome today. I left it at 42-1, and depending on how they played Rehman, I expected them to wipe out the run deficit and begin building a lead. My entertainment tonight was watching them construct an innings to give them a decent total for Pakistan to chase down. But 110 all out!! On a pitch that when I was watching was doing next to nothing at all. Did it deteriorate any, was Rehman turning it square or Gul getting plenty of reverse ?
I watched the NZ side compete, fight, and display no less skill in India in the last series to be very competitive against one of the world's finest teams, but they then produce a performance like this when you think they may be turning a corner. Another false dawn, or is this just a particularly bad performance that won't be repeated for a while ?
When Taylor, Ryder and Williamson score just nine runs between them, you know you're going to struggle. McIntosh looked well out of nick, while McCullum made another start.
Will watch the rest of the Test later and try to get my head round what on earth went wrong.
i agree with you. We haven't seen a Pak batting collapse since the English series. There were mini collapses were SA but nothing serious. One of them must be around the cornerOh man how did this happen? I saw 367 and left thinking New Zealand would get another 270 odd, Pakistan would be chasing 180 and get bundled out for 140 like this
A pleasant surprise..also because Pakistan usually never win the first test match of a series.. I was expecting 1-1.
I would agree
Lets see what they have in store in the second test match.. I still dont want to get too excited. Pakistan are due a dramatic batting collapse.
If there's a quota of batting collapses they probably exhausted it pretty thoroughly in that England series. I think you're in the clear.i agree with you. lol.....the pakistan batting collapse supply is inexhaustible. This has been an extraordinarily long run without a collapse. It is not the Pakistan batting's fault that they didn't collapse. They did show signs of it even on the morning of the 3rd day tbh when Misbah and Shafiq went quickly it is just that NZ have been dire. Just a little more application from NZ and you will see Voila................If there's a quota of batting collapses they probably exhausted it pretty thoroughly in that England series. I think you're in the clear.
Very well written article
