*Official* - Pakistan in New Zealand 2010/2011

It was an ok call I think. The pitch didn't seem as much of a road on the first morning. I am sure it must have been Waqar's idea and he was gun vs NZ
Well the first session of the game has certainly produced the best bowling conditions so far, but you'd expect to say that after Day 2 even on a pitch you should clearly bat first on. I reckon it'll dry out a bit and that the fifth day will be a lot harder to bat on than the first, but we'll see.

Obviously crucial for Pakistan to get their runs in the first innings as conditions may get tough to bat on come day five if this hot weather continues and presumably helps Vettori and Williamson in the latter stages with the ball.

Been a good performance from Pakistan today, was hard going at times because while there is very little happening either in the air or off the pitch, it does look slow and not conducive to fluent strokeplay. That said Taufeeq Umar played some glorious strokes at the top of the innings, presumably the new ball was coming onto the bat much better.

Been an excellent partnership so far between Shafiq and Misbah. Was very watchful, Misbah in particular, until he decided to take a chance or two in the last half a dozen overs before the close. Not sure what his thinking was, whether he thought NZ were looking jaded in the field, or he just fancied playing a few shots, any ideas ?

Expected Misbah to play a few more shots against Vettori, at least work him round better with his innovative reverse sweeps and conventional sweeps, but he generally just dead batted him back.

Tim Southee worked hard all day and bowled well, got the ball to just shape in, reverse swing, on occasions. Stuck to good areas and deserved a bit more luck.

Important NZ get an early strike or two with the new ball, that predictably has been taken immediately. Be interesting to see how Misbah and Shafiq play during this crucial period.

exactly how i predicted - nz building up the pressure here.

rotation of strike is key otherwise a wicket IS coming.

Misbah has such a lazy technique. Plays away from his body, huge gap between bat pad and an angled bat face. Quite difficult to watch.

Plays with little backlift which never lends itself to a particularly attractive technique. What he lacks in aesthetic beauty I always think he goes some way to compensating it by batting with his brain. Like everyone has the odd brainfade, but I like the way he goes about his business generally.

Yeah true. A bit similar to Inzi?

Yes similar in that respect, but without the ability to have quite so much time to play his strokes and making things look much easier than they are. I like Misbah, but yes I agree, not the type of player to have spectators rushing to their seats.

Bit tough on Shafiq that, only just clipping leg stump. Just reward for Southee.

Now Misbah's gone, game on, well bowled Arnel, looked a closer one.

match changing moment, crappy decision by umpire.
Meh... there were a couple yesterday that could've gone New Zealand's way but didn't. All a part of test cricket. Even if the UDRS was present, that still would've been out.

dont recall many.

as far as umpiring decisions to go, and in the absence of UDRS that was a harsh/bad decision, umpire cannot have been that certain.
