Anybody else of the opinion that Trent Boult should get a shot in the Welly test?
No, you're alone and you always will be. :P

In all honesty, Boult needs a prolonged run in domestic cricket before he can be considered. If he plays the last 7 matches of the current season, and picks up say 30 wickets at a good average, it'd be worthwhile throwing him in on the mid-year tour to Bangladesh and maybe the end of year Australia series. But until he's proved that he's an effective wicket taker in domestic cricket, I don't want him near the national side.

If we wanted a left arm seamer I think I'd pick Bates over Boult at this stage - Bates may not have picked up as many wickets in domestic four-day this year (actually, I can't remember whether he has or hasn't), but he does play on the Auckland road. I also doubt that Boult has anything in pace over Bates at present.

Moot point though - Martin, Southee and Arnel should be our attack.

All this abandoning ship/giving up on your side in this thread, incidentally, is pretty weak. Were we not singing the praises of how resilient our side was only 2 Tests again in India? Seems like some of us might be talkback callers/Mark Watson.
 tbf it was a was a very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very poor performance though!

There have been a lot of batting collapses in NZ's test history, but this would be up there with the very worst in the whole time I've been watching cricket (since mid-90s). In terms of match position, quality of opposition bowling, pitch conditions... there were no mitigating circumstances* and no reason whatsoever for that to happen.

Just watching the two of them in the HRV cup, I'd say Boult is definately a yard or two quicker than Bates. He'd probably by in the high 130's, at least in his 1st spell, while Bates is very much more a low 130's type.

I was impressed by Andy McKay in the 3rd Test in India, got Tendulkar out with a beauty and probably should have had Gambhir LBW early on. Was really dire in the ODI's though.

Injured at the moment I believe.

I don't really care what they do with the bowling as long as there's some variation in the damn attack. 3 right-arm medium bowlers & a spinner who doesn't turn it is dire. FFS, try either the left-arm variation or risk a raw bowler who bowls 140+ clicks. Sick of the conservative approach, what have we got to lose, we'll continue to struggle to get 20 wickets against a half-decent batting line-up with the current attack of Martin, Arnel , Southee & Vettori. There's such a sameness to that attack. I do realize the batting effectively lost us this latest test, but any bowling attack needs some variety.

Lol atthe bowling still managing to cop **** despite doing nothing wrong.

Absolutely he could do a job at 130-135 (I hate this speed nonsense, last mention). Look at the ball that got Misbah, on a completely flat deck, and tell me that's not a guy with the right tools to be an effective bowler in Test cricket. Add in height and from all I've seen a good command of accuracy and there is no reason he can't be a good third seamer - a very good third seamer.
AWTA.

It also isn't common. CW isn't the NZ Herald Online comments page. I guess people are finally starting to have had enough.

I've always supported CD over NZ though. Drop Taylor so he can come play for a real cricket team!

Not Terrible
Taylor is taking a lot of this on his chin in every interview I've heard. Odd to think of the senior batting role he has when he has only been a Test player for 3-4 years.

He'll ton up next match. Always produces when he's in a corner, whether it's a corner made by our top order or our pitchfork bearing public.

And he's from CD, and CD make real batsmen.

Incidentally, love how Mark Watson always gets singled out, even over the melodramatic "I'm a real man champ, and you are a DISGRACE!" Doug Golightly. He's like NZs homegrown Scaly, without the mocking.

From the radio sport website:

What is your best moment at Radio Sport?

Any time I discuss cricket and I have to try and convince the NZ public that our cricketers are the perennial underachievers of NZ sport. I cannot believe how many cheerleaders there are out there promoting mediocrity.
