You cant' compare that Indian team to the Indian team of today.

In fact the Indian team that beat Australia in 2001 was much worse than the Indian team that got belted by Australia 2-1 at home in 2004.

2001 was just filled with some amazing individual performances by Laxman, Harbhajan, Dravid and Tendulkar at crucial times in that series.
Didn't we have Ramesh/Das opening, and Raju (LOL!) and Nilesh Kulkarni or Bahutule or someone as support spinner? Yeah, I agree.

I really hope Praveen Kumar does well in the ODI series so he gets selected for the NZ tests. But our selectors are too idiotic to do anything as long as we're winning. Praveen has an exceptional domestic record and IMHO, is the second best pacer in the country. The selectors have a fetish for bowlers who can hit 140 on the speed gun however crap they might be.

Which is why watching the DVD of that 2001 series is even more awesome.

Yeah you get to see Laxman and Dravid's Kolkata partnership and Harbhajan's bowling, but you also get to see the absolute crap that filled the team at the time. It's so lol.

AWTA. I'll be VERY surprised if it isn't 3-0 to India. NZ has two top class players, Vettori and Taylor. India has Tendulkar, Sehwag, Laxman, Khan, Harbhajan, Gambhir ...
NZ's premier seam bowler... Chris Martin . I'll be surprised if he takes more than four wickets in the entire series.
I just hope they pick Williamson. Apart from his batting ability, I think his bowling could be very handy on Indian wickets.
AWTA

Although if Ryder and Williamson play - that means we will have two extra batsman who actually have a hope in hell of scoring more than 30 runs so I have a hope we might draw a match if it is a road (I exclude Tim Mcintosh and his once per series 70 run efforts from my plans).

1 McCullum (NZ's Sehwag)
2 Mcintosh
3 Watling
4 Taylor
5 Ryder
6 Williamson
7 Vettori
8 Van Wyk (In reality Hopkins)
9 Tuffey*
10 Southee
11 Martin

12th Man - Jeets (must have most experience as a 12th man in international cricket history lets see India compete with him for a better 12th!:))

* I think Tuffey will play - but I think Arnel is a better bet.

Our top order may be one of the weaker ones in international cricket. But our 4-7 gives me more hope than I have had in a while. Just hope they all are healthy/get selected.
It is no done deal that Williamson will even get selected. I hope that Vettori rates him.

I'm sure Tendulkar will be having nightmares over that seam attack, Tuffey, Southee, Martin. As a NZ supporter, it's enough to make you cry.

I'm really looking forward to see Zaheer bowl. He has looked in red hot form for a while and looks to have evolved into a brilliant bowler.

He has taken 34 wickets @ 22.7 in 6 games in 2010 and I hope he does well in this series and SA in order to complete an exceptional year, particularly for an Indian pacer.

How do you guys reckon he'll do this series? 15 wickets @ 25 IMO.

I suspect Harbhajan and Ojha are going to get a lot more joy out of this series. Would rather Zaheer kept his powder dry for SA TBH. Don't want him having to carry the attack and getting injured. :p

Not really. Tuffs is a gun and Southee continues to develop. Martin is past it, tough.

Nathan McCullum? Hope not. Dire First Class bowler and bowls darts only.
I think this is final proof that you and Athlai share some sort of cricketing gene. I have seen at least 3 quotes from A saying the same thing.

For the record he doesn't bowl darts. It just looks that way because he doesn't get much purchase.

I think he will take just as many wickets as Jeets would. That said I would not play 5 bowlers anyway - would use Ryder and Williamson as our 5th and hence would not have room for two specialist spinners.
