**Official** England in New Zealand

Yeah, I'm watching. Impressed by the NZ bowlers' line after it was so terrible during the week. Poor running although the NZ fielding has been excellent. And it looks like we have another one.

listening on the internet, sounds like a very good performance from NZ combined with a dire performance from England..not what you want in a ODI.

NZ were paying $2.20 for the win, and $2.50 for the series.

Only good thing about 20/20 cricket is they have an influence on ODI odds. :)

Put a bit on NZ for the series, and this is a good start though obviously England could come back since its a best of 5 series.

But my multi of LA Lakers + NZ to win today looks alright :D

New Zealands bowling was really dominant. The batsman never looked on top at all. Top work by Styris in particular. He didn't look that threatening on the telly but no one really got him away at all.

Just hoping we don't crash out for 100.

Good performance.

Dissapointed with Ryder's dismissal - holding out to midwicket when he should have been aiming for a good not out.

Why Dmitri is pencilled in as a 2020 specialist is beyond me, England didn't use him in SL and I hope they don't make the same mistake. Dmirtri in for Anderson.

Haha, what a game! What a night out!

Stick that up your arse Jonathan Millmow, you ****!

Go the Black Caps!

Wow, I don't even know where to begin with whats wrong right here. But yeah, will keep it short:

Worst call.
Haha, why? Mascarenhas should be in the first choice XI all the time, unless he's peforming poorly. Considering what he did in the Twenty20 games, I'm amazed he's being ignored yet again. He should be in the side, and who to drop? Sidebottom? Not likely. Swann? Has done pretty well so far in his career. Broad? Bowled excellently in the game tonight, and is better than Anderson. Pretty obvious who needs to make way for Dimitri.

If anyone makes way it is Bopara. Otherwise we go into a game with two proper fast bowlers.

Absolutely ludicrous selection. He's basically been selected one game, just because it so happened to be a few days ago. It remids me of when Alex Wharf was selected for England based on taking 6/5 or something equally ridiculous in one game. despite doing little else of note in his career.

If you're going to pick a player with limited experience based on potential, at least pick a player with limited experience based on potential who has had a good and consistent start to his career. Why Flynn and not Hay?
Didn't think it was that bad TBH, and I'm disappointed I didn't get the opportunity to see Flynn bat. Also, it's hardly based on one game. He's got 366 runs this year at an average of over 60, two centuries and striking at more than a run a ball. His List A career makes for pretty good reading too, compared to other potential Black Caps. Since it was for the one game, I thik the selectors would rather have had the guy that was in form. Not to mention that Hay isn't the quickest batsman going around.

Was referring to the fact that Anderson has been England's best ODI bowler for quite a while now, and that their roles are somewhat different in the side, and that Bopara, and to a lesser extent Broad, would be the ones you would look to drop first.

At the start of his career Anderson bowled really well, but from 2004-2007 he was pretty poor. On the surface of it, Anderson had a good year in 2007, 39 wickets at 29.61 with an economy of 4.69. Take away the minnow-bashing he did, and you're left with this.

Personally I don't think Bopara is doing anything in the side. Is there any real point selecting a specialist batsman at #7? Sure, he may be able to score a good 30* when England collapse around him, but is he actually helping the side? Would rather have Mascarenhas at #7, but he's been troubled by pace in the past. In regards to the initial comment, I thought gettingbetter was wanting to replace a bowler with a bowler. Still, I'd rather have Broad in the ODI side at the moment than Anderson. As with above, Anderson's 2007 wasn't as good as most seem to think, while Broad's was marginally better. Combine that with the fact that Broad has outbowled Anderson on the tour and offers more with the bat.

Broad has bowled well on this tour, yes. Not denying he has a future or talent but Anderson should be England's #1 choice on paper on the fact he has experience backed up by performances. Broad could very well replace him in the future, but right now Andersons is Englands best ODI bowler.
Sidebottom could replace him soon, though, when he's played a few more games.

My main point is that Mascarrenhas and Anderson don't fall into the same category for selection. If Dimitri is going to replace anyone it'll be Shah, Bopara or Swann.

Came back from the boozer with the intention of watching the first dozen or so overs (started about 1am over here) but think I lasted about 3, I put the telly on a 30 minute snooze & only recall the warning for 20. Not the worst game to pass out in front of for a Pom tho, TBF.

Anyway, impressive bowling from NZ, expecially Styris from what I saw in the highlights. It looked the sort of slow pitch that suits his type of bowling (& would've suited Dimi's perfectly too...) admittedly, but he bowled his off-cutters on a sixpence. There was a bit of bounce as well tho, Sidey deceived completely by one from Patel that turned & lept.

Shah's running looks a liability. Selling your captain down the river never the smartest move for me and even then Colly nearly had time to run two, so if Owais had gone there was definitely a run there. No backing-up for his own run out either, which is schoolboy stuff, obv. 8-)

BARNES OUT
Was playing poker with a bunch of cricket mates (after we got washed out) and 2 cases watching this, what a massive waste of time. At least I got to watch Jimmy.

Very disappointing performance from England, but credit to NZ for the way they bowled and fielded initially, then took that into their batting. Were much better on all fronts in this game, with McCullum and ryder showing what was possible on that track with a bit of positive intent.

To be fair to Mustard don't think he knew whether to grind out a decent score or play in the fashion he is expected to at the top of the order. Obviously his case was not helped by the constant loss of wickets down the other end.

The running between the wickets was at times shambolic. Both Colly and Swann have ran before the ball's gone past the fielder, Shah was never really quick off the mark and I am not sure whether the calling was clear or decisive enough. Looked a bit of a rag-tag outfit today.
