My tip to do well this season Kent are having another nightmare it would seem. Things will get considerably better when Kemp and Hall arrive but its sheer absurdity that Darren Stevens is starting in front of Dexter.
Kemp's not coming this year, it's Hall and Arafat, the latter of whom is doing a decent rebuilding job with Walker at the moment. Watch him get out now...

News to me I thought Kempy was coming back this year but anyways Yasir Arafat has just completed his century and taken Kent (with the help of Matt Walker) out of the mire.

Nice collapse by Essex after being 190 without loss (currently 308 for 9). Australian, Steven Cook run through Essex's lower middle order taken four wickets for the loss of no runs.

Not neccessarily - there are any number of decidedly mediocre Kolpak and EU-passport players around who do little to improve the standard but take one hell of a lot of money out of the team paying them.
Oh really?

If they weren't better players (or cheaper options) - they wouldn't be signed because there would be absolutely no point in signing them (especially since there's a loss of funding from playing them)

Pretty average stuff from Yorkshire, top stuff from Younis and Vaughan, but the other people in the top order need to start making runs. Good stuff by Rashid as well, what a gun.

Much better day from Kent after another poor start. Arafat looks like he could turn out to be an excellent signing.

It's a question of equations - if someone's very slightly better and costs far more, a county is still likely to sign him because of short-term interests dominating.

It's far better for the general good of the English game, though, to spend far less money and settle for slightly less good players.

And out of interest, how do you know that they cost far more?

In fact, how do you know they cost more at all?

Bearing in mind the relative strength of the currencies involved, I'd have thought that a lot of these SA Kolpaks are actually cheaper to employ.

As for the quality of cricket, if these English players can only make it by removing better players, then they're not deserving of a place IMO.

The better the standard of player in County cricket the better for English cricket.
