(small report in sports page)

Munich bounces back.

Munich bounced back in the Academy one day competition after losing out to League side Somerset in a promising match for Munich's batsmen.
Worthington backed up his 100 against Somerset with 104 while Pagnis (69), Athar (64), Alcock (55*) and Tariq (60) all got half centuries as Edinburgh fell short despite some excellent batting.
"I thought we batted well but bowling was nothing spectacular. It was a batting pitch but could've easily gone against us. With a revised bowling attack we're going into the Four Day looking for our fourth win of the season" reported manager Greg Thomas after the match.

Division Five - Weekly Preview

The Division Five four day competition was shaken and stirred in round three with some unexpected results and now sees a jam at the top of the table. Round four should be no different and some important games are again upon us as no team can afford to have a poor week.

The first game has Northern Districts hosting the depleted Free State side. Normally a prediction on this game would take about five seconds, however with injuries to key players in the Free State camp brings the sides closer together. Northern Districts have a new resolve about them with new manager Simon Fitzsimmons in charge and have done well under his leadership. This match should be a close one, and Free State should have a little too much for the under-performing Northern Districts side, but Northern Districts are not without chance in this crucial battle. This will be a close one!

Game two is the most anticipated game of round four. Guyana step foot in England for the first and only time this season as they try to leapfrog Leicestershire who's progress was halted by the gutsy Mashonaland in round three. Both teams look even on paper and it will be a matter of who gets the early advantage. There are some key clashes in this contest with Wilkes facing off against Jenkins and Gallage going head-to-head with Satti. Leicestershire have the home ground advantage and have been the most impressive side thus far. Leicestershire should get this one in a tough, close contest.

The thrid game sees Mashonaland pick up their first four day win of season six with Jamaica not submitting their side by the deadline. This should ensure the crowd stays away as Mashonaland will be providing an exhibition match. Not much more to say really, but with Mashonaland having a host of bonus points they have suddenly jumped into promotion calculations, but should be short lived as they face sides who manage to get an official side on the park.

So we should see another interesting round with Free State and Leicestershire again in the winners circle and providing the division five competition with an interesting race for end of season promotion.

With both sides having good enough bowlers and the ground conditions on the side of the bowlers, I don't think a draw will be the outcome.

Division 5 Preview

Before we begin the aciton in round five of the four day competition for division five, I must express my apologies of having no preview prepard for last week. Now the formalities are out of the way...into the aciton...

Our first game sees Free State host Leicestershire. Both teams will be licking their wounds from poor performances in recent weeks. Free State will be boosted by the return of batting linchpin Dave Hussey from injury. This may be a game where their batsman dominate a side, and they need to, with Leicesterhsire having some batting might. However, boosting Leicestershire's chances is the continual injury to star Free State bowler Ul-Hassan, without him Free State lack some penetration in the bowling department and Wilkes may be able to capitilise are a rare double failure against Guyana. Free State should get this one, in a close encounter.

Top of the table Guyana take on the improving Mashonaland. Guyana find themselves in an unusual position of being favourites for most games they play, and it has not sat well with them so far. They have struggled for consistency especially in the one day format, howerver in the four day format they have put in the crucuial performances when needed. They will need that again as they face Mashonaland who embarrased them in their recent one day outing. Guyana should get the win here, and increase the gap between one and two.

Northern Districts will turn up to Jamaica tomorrow unsure of which team they will face. They know they will face a side named Jamaica, but which one? The team that demolished Free State or the team that succumed to Guyana and Mashonaland? This game is the hardest to tip, because if the first Jamaican side turn up Northern Districts may aswell have stayed in New Zealand, however if the second Jamaican side turn up it will be all Northern Districts. With Northern Districts improving under new management, I'm giving them the tip, but without much confidence.

This week should see Guyana and Free State break clear of the opposition and Northern Districts get past Mashonaland in the fight to stay out of the relegation playoff.

welcome aboard mate, its always good to give new managers a chance to show their ability, also this means all 14 teams currently have managers, so if we get any more sign ups the wcc managers who are also looking after an academy side will have to give it up...

Trouble At Edinburgh

After a horrible start to the season, there are rumblings in the backroom of Edinburgh Cricket Club, with rumours of manager Jack McNamara's contract being severely altered, and him working for no pay.

Having endured a horrible start to his managing career - Edinburgh has failed to win a match since McNamara took over - it is well known around the club how horrified the Chief Executive Officer, Sir Jock Haggis, is with the current situation that the Academy side finds itself in, and is holding McNamara directly responsible.

However, on a personal front, McNamara is also countering some problems. When he took up the role as manager, he was quoted as saying that "He'd be happy to do the job for free", in reference to the delight of finally breaking into the WCC ranks. Now that his side has not won a match since he took over, Haggis has used a clause in his contract to enforce this, and as a result McNamara will not be getting paid for the rest of the season.

Having sought legal advice, McNamara was dismayed to find that there was nothing that could be done to stop Edinburgh from halting his pay. Therefore, to make sure that he is able to feed his family, McNamara has been forced to get a part time job flipping burgers at McDonalds, earning himself $4 an hour.

Haggis, when questioned outside of his own home, which WCC Herald reporters had staked out for the previous 48 hours, refused to confirm or deny the rumours, saying only, "We are paying McNamara what he is worth. Every single cent."

A distraught McNamara has made himself unavailable for comment.

Pretoria may have something to say about that considering the current manager is undefeated... :p

LOL! Far too much time and energy used (not yet wasted) in developing the side, I aint' gonna give up now, if I can help it. Plus, I want to be around to see how this new finance system unfolds.
