Munich posted their first 4-day win of the season over Limerick also marking their first game under new coach, Greg Thomas.
Limerick won the toss and decided to bat, on what looked like an excellent batting pitch.
However, Roll struck quickley and Limerick were 1-9, followed by Bolderstone's only wicket of the match, removing Jeffrey for 3. Khan and Henry held together to put on a 60 run partnership before Roll deceived Khan with spin, giving an easy catch to Worthington, and Roll his second wicket of the innings. Henrey and Ojha started to look like they'd make an impact before Worthington struck and dismissed Ojha for 23. Adams tried to stay with Henry but Sabir struck removing Henry for innings top of 70 and Madugalle for a duck. Adams was the next to go, followed by Parry and Byrne trying to make the score respectable for Limerick however Sabir stopped the resistence and the innings taking 6/38.
Munich's innings started shakily losing Tariq for just 8, caugt by Khan off some good Madugalle bowling, the score 1/16.
Any hope Limerick had of a batting collapse was quickley dashed as Athar and Bowes put on a partnership worth 158.
However, Bowes looking to hit a century was the victim of another classy Madugalle delivery, falling for 64. 21 runs later, Pagnis was dismissed for just 3 as French bagged his first of 3 wickets. Turpin (29 off 51) played anchor to Athar as they took the side past 200 with 68 runs for the 4th wicket, Athar brining up his 100 along the way, before Turpin edged one off Adams, to bring Birch into bat. The in form Birch was quickley off the mark and it looked these two would make Limerick suffer. However, just as Athar reached his 150 he was dismissed by an Adams slower ball, Munich now 5-300. Just 5 was added to that score as Holcombe came and went cheaply (4 off 6). Birch shuffled into the 20's showing great maturity as he and Worthington hit 43 before the latter was caught out on 16 (off 30).
Birch kept most of the strike as he approached 50 however an overly ambitious charge from Roll saw him stopped for 3 (off 9) giving Madugalle his third wicket.
This prompted Birch to get a wriggle on as Balderstone was dismissed for 3 (off 8) by French at the other end. Birch went to 51 off 109 balls with a 3, bringing Sabir onto strike who survrived just 3 balls, out for 1.
Limerick's second innings started off better with a 57 run opening partnership, which ended with Riley out for 21 from some sharp Sabir bowling. Jeffrey (16 off 31), Henry (26 off 62) and Ojha (25 off 62) all got starts but failed to continue on. Khan was dismissed for 59, with Limerick just short of making Munich bat again. Madugalle (41 not out) and Byrne (23) offered some late order resistence to move Limerick past Munich's score and 50 runs ahead before Birch struck removing the the last three batsmen for 2 giving him a total of 4-52, with Limerick all out for 234.
Athar (27 off 42) and Tariq (32 off 40) took just 14 overs to wrap up the match, Munich 0-59.
Athar's 150 earned him man of the match and a place in the side for the CW Bar cup.
Birch's 4-52 and 51* shows that he's a promising young player that we will surely see more of in the years to come.
After the match we nabbed a few words from Munich's new coach.
"I am very pleased with this strong performance from our side, and first 4-day win of the season. Hopefully we can continue to perform well in the CW Bar Cup and against Edinburgh in the next few rounds. We're looking foward to the challenges, especially in the Cup. We can learn a lot from that. We've got a great side with good young players and they're going to take us into the top 4".
