Edinbrugh's Season Summation

It's been a wild and wooly time for the (very few) supporters of Edinbrugh Cricket Club, with the constant chopping and changing of managers, the infamous "hot dog with skirt" date rape scandal, and more late night binges than a cricket tour hosted by Andrew Symonds.

Since Jack McNamara took over as manager, real concerns emerged over the direction of the club, with individual performances managing to keep his side competitive as opposed to the team efforts that are required to be successful - something that was seen regularly before his arrival.

"I'm prepared to accept responsibility for the lesser performance of the team during my time as coach" McNamara said. "I think that not all the players were suited to my style of individual development, seeking to create a fuller player out of everyone. Someone like Otis McBain really did prosper especially in the OD format which he traditionally hasn't been strong in, but the Frank Drinkell's of the world really did prefer the more generic, less scientific methods that were provided by previous coaches. I believe that I can take something out of this as I try and gain a spot in the big league."

McNamara, speaking through a tin can phone after his infamous run in with the administration of his club, was also very positive in his outlook for next season, despite the collapse of the side's fortunes under him.

Unfortunately, the players could not profess the same committment with none wishing to commit to a contract till they field offers from other clubs. This is clearly a reflection of the dissatisfaction in a side who only managed two wins in either form of the game in the last 8 matches of the season, despite making the CW Bar Cup Third Round.

Province Lose Favorite Son

After 3 seasons of faithful service to Western Province Thilan Samaraweera's time has come to pack him bag and move to England to complete his career. In an emotional press conference Thilan told fans outside the Clubs Headquarters that he'd enjoyed every moment at the club, such as captaining them to promotion in 4 day. He also added that he hopes the club has every success in it's quest for the D1 4 day title and believes the work ethic at the club will bring success. Accompanying Samaraweera on the flight to England was young all rounder Quintin Friend who was excited about the prospect of furthering his career in England, after a very successful year at South Africa.

The loss came at a benefit for Province however as they added another talented batsman to their ranks which appeared to be dwindling after early trades. Pratyush Abid Ali comes to Province with a few seasons of solid cricket behind him and with a career avg of over 50 will play an important role in the club's 4 day quest.

Colts name Coaching Staff for Season 7

After unexpected departure of former Colts manager Andrew Garven, his successor Tharmi Loganathan has wasted no time in assembling his new coaching staff. Colts legend and Sri Lankan keeper/batsmen Romesh Kaluwitharana has been appointed assistant manager. Sanjeeva Ranatunga, the brother of former Sri Lanka captain Ajuna Ranatunga, has been appointed batting coach. Sanjayan Thuraisingam continues his involvement with Loganathan, after he worked under him last season at the Ottawa Orbits and Kent CCC as their bowling coach and has been appointed fast bowler coach. Former Sri Lanka spinner Don Anurasiri finishes off the coaching panel and has been appointed as Spin Bowling Coach.

I'm bringing back this thread as to hopefully increase a bit of involvement from managers, it's a good way to interact and get a bit more out of your wcc experience. If you would like to contribute something but arent sure what just read back through the thread for a few ideas. No one is forced to do anything but it always added something extra.

Rumours are doing the rounds of the Cricketing world that a High-Profile manager will be stepping down from his role in the near future.

The talk is that the manager in question will still be involved with the club however he will be there as an advisor to a new manager who has no prior experience. How this will effect the club and the players is yet to be known, However stay tuned here for more as it comes to hand..

COBRAS DENY THAT SMITH HAS BEEN SACKED

Despite being crowed player of the year at the recent WCC awards night there is renewed speculation this morning that Cobras captain Graeme Smith is on the verge of being sacked. The South African outfit boasted one of the more talented playing groups in season 2 however they were unable to claim any silverware. With runners-up finishes in First Class and also the Twenty20 competition Smith has reportedly been told he wont be captain next season and will be replaced by a fresh member in the squad.

While the current Cobras squad has a number of candidates to captain there could be a shock contender in Warwickshire batsman Ian Bell. Bell is apparently on the outer in England and Cobras have shown a keen interest in securing the batsman mainly for his captaincy skills, the club has denied the allegations though and have thrown their full support behind Smith. Cobras coach Simon Fitzsimmons had this to say; "Graeme is our leader and star player, it would be madness to replace him with a guy who is barely up to first class standard, I'm sure Ian is a nice kid but as far as professional cricketers though he is a top notch Sunday league player.

There has been no comment from Warwickshire, more later.

CLUB IN FINANCIAL CRISIS

Rumours of coaching changes were first and now the rumours are increasing that a certain WCC Club is in Major Financial Ruin and are on the Brink of collapse.

Our Spies tell us that the club are days away from collapsing and if they dont find a backer in the next few days they will be expelled from the Third season of WCC.

When we tried to speak to the head of the club he refused and jumped in his car and got away quickly.

A Member of the playing group, who wished not to be named told us that the players were being kept in the dark and many were concerned about where they would be next season. "There are new guys coming to the club who have contacted me asking what is with these rumours, unfortunately i can't tell them anything as we know as much as they do".
The player went on to say that the club had assured them that it would be all ok but until it was sorted the players could not stop worrying.

We hope to have more on this story tomorrow.

COBRAS ANNOUNCE TACO BELL AS NEW SPONSOR

In a major stuff up by this paper it has been announced today that Taco Bell will be one of Cobras new sponsors for season 3. As was reported earlier today we were informed that Warwickshire batsman Ian Bell was a target of the club but it appears we have gotten our wires mixed up.

As part of the sponsorship package Taco Bell will provide all the meals at Cobras home matches as well as having minor sponsorship signs around the ground, a representative of Taco Bell has said it is a great move for the company as they look to expand their product to major cities throughout the world.

Cobras manager Simon Fitzsimmons is said to be delighted with the news, more so because it means the club won't be signing Ian Bell.

No more Magic in Kandurata

The end seems close for veteran Sri Lankan batsmen Marvan Atapattu, after he was informed by the club they will no longer we renewing his contract for next season. The thirty nine year old opener hoped to play at least one more season of First Class cricketer before calling up stumps on what has been a brilliant career to date. But it looks like now he will have continued playing at new club if he wants to continue playing First Class cricket.

Relationships between the batsmen and Coach Tharmi Loagnathan became heated at the end of last season. After the batsmen was dropped for the Twenty20 Final and then initially the final One Day match of the season. Atapattu did eventually make a return for the final one day match, when Adhan Raza pulled out injured. However the club has said they will welcome him back once his playing commitments are finished.

Atapattu will be joined by fellow opener Sajith Fernando on the look at for a new club; after he was informed he services were no longer required at the club. With the recent sale of Thilan Samaraweera the core of the foundation Kanduarata batting line up has left, only Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara and Tharanga Paranaviana remaining. Questions have been asked by the supporters whether the club is starting to lose it Sri Lankan identity.

English keeper batsmen James Midlane has also been released by the club for draft. With Warwickshire signing Peter Weeks failing to agree with personal terms with the club and choosing to enter the draft instead.

Warwickshire into Administration

Warwickshire CC have been taken over by Administrators today after the club failed to meet a deadline given to them to show they could stand up financially on their own.

"Warwickshire Cricket Club has been taken over by Administrators today after the clubs board were unable to provide information on finances to deem the club Solvent" A spokesperson from the club said today. "It is without doubt a devastating day for the club, its players and fans alike and we sincerely hope that this is not the end of the Club with such a proud history".

Administrators are already in talks with a mystery backer who is looking into buying out the club and owning the licence to enter the WCC.

"We are currently in talks with someone in regards to purchasing the club however any further information will not be released until we have discussed all options and avenues available" A spokesperson for the Administration said today.

When asked on the future of the players the Administration told reporters that the players had been garaunteed that they were the immediate priority.

More info as it comes to hand.

Titans fans over the news of Warwickshire.

"Like, ****, grow some" was the result of the poll asking supporters if they were over it all.

In other news:

Titans looking at making a midnight signing before trading season closes.

When coach Matthew Luff was asked about this, he seemed surprised at this revelation, or was he?
