Weird, I'm still not seeing a thing on McGrath on either Sky News or the Fairfax/Murdoch press.

In what context was it on Channel 10? I flicked over and they were in the middle of some Laguna Beach crap.
Nine mentioned it at the end of their piece on Warne.

Hopefully the selectors go the way of Clark, Lee, Bracken and McGill (for the next couple of years anyway till a spinner stands up)

Bracken provides a perfect foil for the other two and is able to take very key wickets.

Can't believe he'll bow out with no test century to his name. Send him in at number 4!

Absolutely devastating, he was one of those bowlers whom I would stay glued to the TV for. If I needed to do something else during the cricket, it would always happen straight after any Warne over. I'm sure many know what I'm on about.

An absolutely fantastic player. Let's hope he now doesn't pull a Bradman and fail to get a wicket or something...

Just as a side note - I actually feel somewhat sorry for him that the news broke before he had a chance to break it himself. Unless, of course, he authorised the deliberate leaking. I doubt it though. Still, I suppose it sums up his relationship with the media to a tee huh?

THANK GOD :D

WE FINALLY GOT RID OF THEM!

:p
Prediction:

2049 Ashes series:

Warne, aged 80, to be rolled out in wheelchair, blind in one eye and incontinent, to take 30-plus England wickets. Still not skipper and still chasing hotties in his motorised chair.

What did they say? Jim Wilson just mentioned McGrath now, but only in the context of the possibility that he, and either one or both of Langer and Hayden could go at the end of the series (which sounds far more about casual speculation than actual rumor).

Whatever it takes!!!
I did comment to my cousin reg. this possibility. To me, it was always on the cards once Australia started to really dominate this Ashes series. It makes sense because it is THE series for both Aussies and Englishmen and these two champions would absolutely love this to be their LAST TEST MATCH memories. I am sure that McGrath (if he has retired) would still carry on with ODIs till the WC.

Time to salute two of the GOATs and to think of how privileged we have been to have watched them in action over the years. The fact that I have got to see Warney in action thrice in Chennai makes me feel really special when considering that there are a no. of cricket fans who have never watched him LIVE. Actually, I watched these two during the WC quaterfinals as well. Thanks for all the wonderful memories, guys. :)

Can someone find me a good avatar length pic of Warne and McGrath to honour the occassion? Pleeeeeeeease?

SL, I was so hung up on the Warne announcement, that when they said McGrath is also tipped to retire post-Sydney, I fell off my chair and woke up in a daze. They indicated that McGrath will follow suit and make an announcement after Warne. Sydney radio now reporting the same thing.

Is it possible that his last game will be at the MCG? It would be perfect and Warne is the type to make these scripts.

Just thinking out loud here.

Good day for opposing batsmen I guess.
As HB said, it's not as surprising after the initial shock - both'll go off on a high and on their own terms, before form/injuries force them to retire.

Possible, but every report indicates that it will be Sydney

Cheers, mate. Still haven't seen anything myself, it just seemed weird that so little prominence would be given to McGrath's possible exit in comparison to Warne's.

Well, I've been in two minds about how much sleep to deprive myself of for these last two Tests. My mind is now made up, as much as possible, to watch Shane Warne, the master. Even though I obviously want us to win, I hope Warney takes a tenfer tbh.

You could try this one, although Pigeon's retirement isn't really confirmed yet:
Thanks a lot, SL. Even if GM isn't retiring, these two will always be remembered together, me thinks. Just like Wasim-Waqar, Walsh-Ambrose etc. :)

My god. Totally shocked and absolutely gutted. Will take a few days to get over.

So glad I'm going to the Boxing Day test - really hope Aussies are bowling the days I'm there now.

Such a massive void in the team and in what I enjoy most about watching my favourite sport and pasttime. Feel like one of the big links to my youth has died tbh...
