Which is perfectly fine. What about your second XI?
That seems fine. But I would go with Ambrose, Steyn and Lillee… I wouldn’t give any importance to his batting as I have the next 6 best bats and Knott. Although I wouldn’t mind using Imran.

Edit : Im not about the reputation of Barnes were to include him.

Here I don't think I will agree at all, unless you think there's a significant gap in skill between Lillee and Imran. Knott isn't a Test class bat and I would really prefer to have a 5th bowler as well, preferably Kallis, in the top 6.

Ive edited. Im not sure were to place Barnes. In first or second
I have
Hadlee, Marshall and McGrath
Ambrose, Lillee, Steyn/Barnes

Not sure whether Barnes will replace anyone in the first XI

I take the 1st Lillee is supposed to be McGrath?

I will personally have Barnes in team 2. Any particular reason you rate Lillee so highly?

Knott is very much an above average #7, for both his era and post WWI cricket. How is that not a test class #7?

Knotty hit five Test centuries (plus another 30 50+ scores!) and averaged nearly 33. Given he's batting at 7, I think that's definitely good enough given his superlative keeping.

yes McGrath

Lillee’s failure outside Australia, England and New Zealand are very short samples. Performance VS Rest of the World, WSC if given test status also comes into picture for me. So less emphasis although does count and his peer review is something the best i’ve heard apart from Akram.

I said a Test Class Batsman, like Gilchrist is (who actually is an ATVG); not a Test Class Batsmen as per batting position. It was, very much, in comparison to Gilchrist.

There isn’t much difference between Imran and Knott as a bat. Knott infact is better than Hadlee, Pollock etc as bat.

I honestly don't think Lillee's Australia record is top 10 at Home. So given his only other success is in England (no qualms there) and NZ (were exceptionally weak); I would have Imran definitely higher.

Obviously my rankings are different. Imran is in my top 5.
This is where I am with Imran too. I think he holds his own just as a pure quick with basically anyone, without even considering the other factors like batting, leadership, old-ball mastery, big game impact etc. So it makes him an easier pick for me than for those who rate him a notch or two lower.

Yeah. He is underrated as a bowler IMO. There seems to be a type of thinking that doesn't want to accept he was as good a cricketer he actually was. His performance against the WI in the 80s (51 wickets@16) should dispell any doubts on his quality.

Another misconception folks have is he was expensive, yet he has a better ER than Hadlee and Marshall.

I mean the post was literally not about Gilchrist in any way shape or form and you didn’t mention him - you can understand the confusion.
