Look, all said and done, we all would take a record with tons over one without them. 14 tests for Root without a ton is inexcusable.
Eh tons isn't that important but it's conditions dependant. The real issue is that he's also had some series where he had real roads like 2017/18 where he got loads of 50s but his inability to convert really hurt his team. If Australia continue to produce seaming decks like they have recently, a few important 50s would go a long way towards rectifying his record even without a ton.

Harvey is definitely better.

even in decline phase he was able to make crucial runs on matting wickets against Fazal and tons on Trueman and Statham, Kohli in decline phase has looked hopeless.

Not definitely imo. Had the milder decline but think peak Kohli was better. Equal in SA (slight edge to Kohli), Harvey slightly better in England but not massively, him in WI and him in Australia are pretty equalish and Kohli definitely better at home. Still think it's Harvey though, probs, but just.

only if Harvey's Ashes record was a little better...do think he is better away though, ATG in Windies, one of the GOATs in SA, awesome work against Fazal on mattings, some great work in India on proper turners too

I'm not sure. I don't think tons have to be the end all if you have a good overall average, but if he has 19 tests without a ton that is a fair bit questionable.

Honestly that is nonsense.

Venerating a player based on his achievements isn't mythologizing.

Please show where he has been described repeatedly in such terms. You have built a strawman and it is becoming tiresome.
It's always nonsense when it comes to one of your favorites.

But you do the same to multiple players, literally almost daily.

Viv has achievements as well, but a small handful of folks, they basically attribute it to chewing him and walking to a pitch.

For Kallis and Lara you harp on straw man arguments, yet ignore the same flaws that existed for Imran and Sachin.

Lara, as I'm sure you're aware was never ranked lower than Sachin during their careers, certainly not a tier lower and he had an extra gear and an elevated level that Sachin couldn't touch.

So your constant jabs are more than tiresome, they are utterly unwarranted and ridiculous.

You’d never see kyear mythologizing a player with multiple paragraphs tbf
Pointing out facts is quite different, especially for players who aren't from the big 3 countries that makes up about 90% of the forum, and most feel like they can systematically downgrade or ignore.

Guys with tier 1 peer rating are generally the high strike rate guys

Hutton with his 38 strike rate was always going to struggle a bit on that metric
I don't see how you can be in that first tier if you lacked the ability to adapt mid innings as required. Even as an opener.
