The safe option for captain would of course be Steve Waugh . But I'd like to see Tendulkar captain. His ideas would be suitable for a team of such class.
And what ideas might those be?

Sorry, perhaps I should've rephrased it as:

"If it's a team of your cricket-watching life, then there is no way any sane person under 24 could exclude him." ;)

I don't see why. Steve Waugh is one of the most aggressive captains in recent times, and he dealt well with a team of incredibly high class, that would undoubtedly be ranked among the greatest of all time. Why would Tendulkar be a preferable captain for "a team of such class"?

actually Waugh was a good captain but i dont rate him top notch.
He basically inherited the team that Border and Taylor built and reaped the dividends...sort of like Viv Richards reaping the hard work of Clive Lloyd.

IMO, the greatest captains ever would be Frank Worrell, Clive Lloyd, Bobby Simpson, Imran Khan, Mark Taylor,Arjuna Ranatunga and Mike Brearley.

Steve Waugh was good but as was shown in india this time round was prehaps abit too agressive - never relented but never really adapted as much as he should have in some situations.

Ranatunga's only tactic was to call for a runner when he got puffed from walking to the crease
It was his ideas and selections <which were in open conflict with the coach most of the times> that made SL world champs just 2-3 years after they were a buncha nohopers.
It was his tactic of pinch-hitting, employing Jayasurya and Kaluwitharana that revolutionised the ODI batting for the next 6-7 years.
And he was as astute as anyone in assessing the match stage, field settings and bowling changes.

You may not like him but give kudos where kudos are earned.
I dont like Miandad...i think he is a top notch tosser as a person. But that doesnt prevent me from saying that he was amongst the top 3 batsmen of the 80s and one of the alltime greats.

most cricket watchers and experts consider that above statement to be false.
Waugh did a fair deal <Matty Hayden and Martyn would be the two most obvious examples> but he basically reaped the dividends of the hard work done by Border and Taylor
Like Viv reaped the dividends of Lloyd's hard work.

That doesn't make him anti-Aussie mate. Neither does leaving Tendulkar out from your team make you anti-Indian, and so on and so on.

McGrath/Murali depending on the pitch.

Very unlucky: Langer, Gibbs, Lara, Dravid, Kallis, Cairns, Richardson, Flintoff, Walsh, Ambrose, M & S Waugh, Danny Morrison.

This team was picked on the games I have personally watched, which definitely makes it pretty inaccurate as to a realistic team.

And I openly admit that I put Rhodes and Ponting in there above Dravid, Kallis and Lara purely due to the desire to have argubly the two best fielders in recent cricket history (that can actually warrant a World XI position with their batting, unlike Symonds). Ponting + Rhodes would make me a very happy person.

oh so youve conducted a survey?

the captain isnt really in charge of developing a player, however he does bring out the best in players, and waugh, going on statistics, was a more successful captain, no doubt about it
