The overrating of a lot of the modern ones has really annoyed me recently ngl. I appreciate the actual ATGs they’ve produced tho and won’t hate on them.

Let me go through some players.

Root is not overrated. He is undisputedly the second best of the Fab 4. I don't think Gooch is being overrated, he literally lost to Chanderpaul; people may rate him way below Crowe and Greenidge as well, which is underrating ngl. Don't think a lot here rates Botham in their top 20 cricketers list. Gower is definitely not overrated here, pretty under-mentioned if anything imo. Cook is definitely rated below Smith/Hayden/Sehwag here, so not overrated. Underwood is rated below Gibbs and Tayfield, which doesn't sound very high to me. And many people hate Pietersen with a passion here.
You could call Trueman overrated, but pretty sure he's rated below Lillee, Donald, Garner here.

Many of them might be highly overrated by English fans, but certain Indian players' ratings by their fans could arguably be said to be worse.

Nah i think some of those are definitely overrated but tbh now that I think about it, it’s mainly English fans that’s overrate them. You’re right that people outside England probably don’t overrate them so it shouldn’t annoy me that much.

I mean, if he is so bothered by a few dudes having Gooch high, he needs to immediately get a job. anyway, one has valid reasons to rate Gooch, if you don't agree it's whatevs.

I suspect I talk a lot about players I perceive as underrated or just simply high quality because I'm a fairly positive person and don't want to drone on over more cynical opinions.

It might seem like bumping up England players is biased because I'm an England fan, but I do it for plenty of players from other teams too.

Don't think anybody could blame you of being biased towards English players, at least from what I've read.
Same for Johan, although I often tease him for rating English players highly, don't seriously think he is biased towards them.

I'm afraid, with the guy that is agitated it's less about the arguments and ratings made and more about nationality and ethnicity. But Alas, doesn't really matter.
