GriegJadeja here, but Grieg is a better bat, I would say. Very, very underrated on that end.
After Sobers and Kallis I wonder who are the best batting sided true all-rounders (don't say Hammond, lol)? Grieg surely has to be high on that list.
should be winning imoSurprised Greig doing better than I thought.
With a 6 year career at peak and a 32 FC batting average...... I would vote not close in this one (and I hardly do those).should be winning imo
with the 60 tests he got to play, he won a bunch of them, even his very first match against peak Lillee he won for England, some people imo just fade in first class, like Glenn McGrath. With a 6 year career at peak and a 32 FC batting average...... McG is a largely different case. Played his 1st FC season, was Great, selected and never looked back. He had just no reason to. His record isn't even mid let alone bad by Sheffield Shield standards. It's actually good.with the 60 tests he got to play, he won a bunch of them, even his very first match against peak Lillee he won for England, some people imo just fade in first class, like Glenn McGrath.
All-rounders naturally go through a large change when breaking into the international scene, but I don't really believe it's wise to dismiss his international batting because his first class average isn't good, it could be chalked upto a lot of factors like Greig not suiting english pitches which is true considering he averages 34 in England while 47 away, or to him not taking county as seriously as internationals. I think I'm really only gonna judge his career on his internationals really, FCs would give the idea he was a 32 avg bat and 28 avg bowler but I'm not really sure that is closer to reality than what we saw in tests.McG is a largely different case. Where credit is due, Greig had a number of wonderful innings in Tests. But I think his average largely inflates his overall quality. Remember, FC was all he had for most part and he was bowling/balanced allrounder. I think he and Jadeja are equal as batsmen, but he is nowhere close as a bowler.
I think it's not right to judge his career only on internationals for how few years he played. Also has a bad record in SA FC batting wise. I also don't believe he didn't took County seriously given it was his primary source of income. I am not waving off his Test record, only reason I rate him as highly as I do, but with all the caveats around I can't rate him That highlyAll-rounders naturally go through a large change when breaking into the international scene, but I don't really believe it's wise to dismiss his international batting because his first class average isn't good, it could be chalked upto a lot of factors like Greig not suiting english pitches which is true considering he averages 34 in England while 47 away, or to him not taking county as seriously as internationals. I think you are significantly underrating Jadeja's batting. They have like what, 3 runs difference in average over like 6 years to his 12.I feel like Greig is more balanced of the two. Jadeja's bowling > Greig's batting > Greig's bowling > Jadeja's batting.
I find Greig's bowling pretty underestimated, very clutch with match winning spells away from home and at home.I think you are significantly underrating Jadeja's batting. They have like what, 3 runs difference in average over like 6 years to his 12.
Yeah but that just comes down to me thinking Test records take precedence over FC record when contradictory and you wanting to take both simultaneously, regardless I think it being his main source of income doesn't really disqualify him from doing the bare minimum, a lot of adults do the bare minimum for their jobsI think it's not right to judge his career only on internationals for how few years he played. Jadeja is India's most consistent batsman for the last 5 years...... And it's not even like highly dependent at homeI find Greig's bowling pretty underestimated, very clutch with match winning spells away from home and at home.
I think with all the evidence we have, it makes hardly any sense to think he would average something close with a 12 year career.Yeah but that just comes down to me thinking Test records take precedence over FC record when contradictory and you wanting to take both simultaneously, regardless I think it being his main source of income doesn't really disqualify him from doing the bare minimum, a lot of adults do the bare minimum for their jobs
that doesn't say much fr. Greig is walking into the current Indian team and being the best Batsmen per his test record, and you know this.Jadeja is India's most consistent batsman for the last 5 years...... And it's not even like highly dependent at home
And won't crack the Indian team by his FC record, I know that too. Overall, I find Greig very overrated (especially jarring when people call him underrated) for playing all his matches in his peak. Just take a peek at FC and the truth becomes clear. Anyways, I think they are pretty equal batsmen (slight edge to Greig for a few Great innings) and Jadeja is a vastly superior bowlerthat doesn't say much fr.
