Here's the Monga piece referred to earlier in the thread. Mostly well argued, and even if the tone gets self-congratulatory at times India's performances over the last two series affords it - far better to publish it now than just before the final which would've seemed like bad form. The number players unearthed over the last couple of years, nay series, has been staggering.

Will maintain though that NZ are worthy finalists (which doesn't seem to be the prevailing opinion among cricket followers in my circle in India), they've built up a solid record after being complete shambles 10 years ago (that was a time I clearly remember when the idea of a 2-tier system was mooted, the same fans who were clamouring for it then would do well to acknowledge NZ's advance since then). They haven't *always* had the rub of the green either in the last 2 years - the 1-0 win at home vs England in 2019 was not part of the WTC for whatever reason, and the tour to Bangladesh last year was called off.

India have the bowling attack to be dominant in half the world and competitive in the other half

nope. at very worst nz are #2 in the world.

im guessing you're thinking aus since i don't think anyone else is in the conversation (maybe england? geez that's a hard case to make tbh), but nz tour slightly better than aus. won our uae games, haven't dropped tests in bangladesh of all places, taken half the meagre opportunities england give us over there.

aus have the head to head but fortunately cricket exists outside india-aus-nz and thank **** for that or it'd just be called rock-paper-scissors until you ***** ruined it and lost to a C team at home containing shardul thakur ffs surrender your test status already.

NZ were actually very respectable in India during the Fleming and Vettori eras (1999-2010), several hard-fought draws there and a few in which they gave India a scare. Since then then it’s been one way traffic save for that Bangalore test in which Southee took a seven wicket haul. Unlikely to change this year though both Latham and Kane have the game to succeed.
