The Battle of the Englishmen

Despite the late rally from Sir Geoffrey Ranji ensures the non-native born have a representative in the semis as he advances 7-4.

Next up our champion post war keeper/batsman against a bowler for whom "legend" is scarcely an adequate sobriquet.

vs

Knott since he's the only keeper left.
We are not picking an XI here, it is the battle of Englishmen, so pick the one who, in your opinion, was the better cricketer or could have influenced the outcome of the game more.

Not quite 24 hours, but 13-2 seems pretty conclusive so I'll step in to save the man of Kent (or should that be Kentish man, can never remember which is which) from further punishment. Barnes into the semis to make sure the bowlers have at least one rep.

Next up a genuine clash of the titans, could go either way, too close to call, couldn't get a fag paper between them, it's all about who performs on the day...

Battle of the Englishmen: Quarter-Final 3

Wally Hammond
634 FC matches, 50,551 runs @ 56.10 (167 centuries, 185 half-centuries), 732 wickets @ 30.58 (5 wicket innings: 22, 10 wicket matches: 3)

vs

WG Grace
870 FC matches, 54,241 runs @ 39.45 (124 centuries, 251 half-centuries), 2809 wickets @ 18.14 (5 wicket innings: 240, 10 wicket matches: 64)
