The Battle of the Commentators

NUFAN

Y no Afghanistan flag
Against Greig.

Annoys the hell out of me. I don't really see why he's needed as a commentator.

If we had a pitch report battle he'd be up there though.

BoyBrumby

Englishman
Grieg's a bombastic buffoon most of the time, but does have the odd flash of insight. One thinks of I's assessment of Withnail: "Even a stopped clock gives the right time twice a day."

For Shastri fairly comfortably tho. A safe pair of hands & I personally think he might be better deployed as a presenter sometimes as he does ask some apposite Q's of his fellow comms; worked well with Nass in the WC as I recall. Good-looking chap too, which is something you'd never accuse Tanny of.

Cricket, Lovely Cricket
Shastri. He is spot on in whatever he says, has a very clear voice and is a solid commentator. I agree with Brumby that he would be a better presenter than commentator. Have thought on the same lines before. Certainly does do the presenter's job during presentation ceremonies superbly. Would love to see him presenting the whole broadcast at times but I guess because we have Bhogle doing it in India, Shastri hasn't really tried a hand at it.

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
Battle Five

Nasser Hussain vs Michael Holding

The Form Guide: Both competitors had a fairly easy ride in the first round. Hussain waltzed through against New Zealand's Ian Smith whilst Holding had a surprisingly easy time against Mike Atherton and Henry Blofeld

Nasser Hussain

Playing Career: Fell 4 short of a hundred test caps for England, leading their resurgence in the early 21st century as Captain; finishing with a slightly disappointing test batting average of 37.18
Commentating Pedigree: Took up residence in the Sky Sports commentary box shortly after his retirement rom international cricket; and has been a permanent fixture ever since.
Other: * Both his dad and brother have also played first class cricket

Michael Holding

Playing Career: A legendary fiery fast bowler for the West Indies, taking nearly 250 wickets over the course of 60 test matches.
Commentating Pedigree: In the words of Mike Selvey, "Now in the commentary box, he is gentle but fearless, a rational critic who beguiles with his deep fruity measured Jamaican twang"
Other: * Over a quarter of his test match batting runs were scored via sixes
* On the board in charge of the Stanford 20:20 competition
