Very interested to hear the rationale of the three guys who voted AGAINST Benaud.

Battle Four

Tony Greig vs Ravi Shastri

The Form Guide: Tony Greig had a tough battle in Round One, surviving a plethora of negative voting and just scraping through against a visibly disappointed Sunil Gavaskar. Shastri surprised one of the pre-tournament favourites, Jim Maxwell to blast through 10 votes to 4 to set him up as the Dark Horse of round two.

Tony Greig

Playing Career: Born in South Africa, he played test cricket for England courtesy of his father being Scottish. Maintained a successful all-round career - performing admirably with bat, ball and as captain despite indulging in some ill-judged words at times.
Commentating Pedigree: A good friend of Kerry Packer, he was given a 'job for life' after retiring from international cricket as a commentator. He has, since then, commentated for Channel Nine in Australia and more recently been commentating for Channel 4 in the UK and on radio for TalkSport.
Other: * A board member of the epilepsy foundation
* Joined the Indian Cricket League as an Executive
* Famous for saying "Touch him up, before rolling him over" regarding Steve Harmison needing to bully Glenn McGrath whilst the latter was batting.

Ravi Shastri

Playing Career: Tireless Indian all-rounder who played test match and ODI cricket for India throughout the 1980s and in to the early 1990s before he was forced into retirement due to a recurring knee injury in 1994.
Commentating Pedigree: Took up commentary early in 1995 during the World Masters Tournament. He soon grew in popularity and gained a regular slot on ESPN-Star, but has recently commentated for Sky Sports and Channel 4.
Other: * Ran a talk show Shaz and Waz with Wasim Akram
* A UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador
* Captained India in a single test match.

HeathDavisSpeed, can I just say this is my favourite thread in cricket chat. Well Done. Ha ha, Jim Maxwell got beaten did he? Yay, - I can’t stand his commentary, bring back Tim Lane, is he in this comp? I love him.

Anyway onto the battle, never heard Ravi Shastri and I have a soft spot for Grieg ‘cos everyone bags him and he was always complimentary about Marto. Mmm, that was a totally biased, un-balanced vote but ahh well, I’m sure everyone else will vote against Grieg. :)

I don't find Greg as annoying as some do but still Shahtri is a better commentator than him.

For- Ravi Shastri.. one of the 2 decent Indian commentators... quite like Harsha Bogle but i think he's out of t he comp?
