South Africa team selection

Kenneth Viljoen

International Regular
I'm thinking along the lines of:

1. Bavuma (C)
2. Rickelton (WK)
3. Markram
4. Stubbs
5. Klaasen
6. Miller
7. Linde/Mulder
8. Jansen
9. Rabada
10. Maharaj
11. Shamsi/Nortje

I think if you go with Linde then Nortje plays but if you go for Mulder then Shamsi surely has to play.

I guess Markram could also open and you slot Verreynne at 4. I actually like that idea of Verreynne in the middle overs of a 50 over game. I think he has the nudge/nurdle game.
I wouldn't select Nortje and Shamsi for odi cricket, they've been playing T20 cricket only for a year and I think they should be behind guys like Coetzee , Williams, even Baartman who have made themselves available.

Could he surpass munsamy in tests also. Or 3rd spinner for Asia countries.
Linde is a fire it in spinner like Santner , these types of spinners do well in India ..
Could also explain why Maharaj has such a poor record in India as he's more about drift and flight , doesn't get the bounce a tall off spinner would get or the natural variation of a darter like Jadeja . He's a different type of spinner to Maharaj

Yup. Agree with all that. Need Rickelton to start doing what he does in SA20 to help take pressure off our middle order where we have the kingpins.

What Linde showed is what we've been missing for so long in limited overs cricket at 7. We had Wiese, Morris, Dwayne Pretorius, Phehlukwayo, Parnell and the likes there and it really hasn't been good enough.

Anrich ruled out the whole white-ball series for Pakistan. Not ideal.

Be frustrating to lose his abilities but injury issues are mounting.

Dendarii

International Debutant
Not that I'm wishing ill on anyone, but maybe the injuries will finally result in Beyers Swanepoel getting called up. I know he played for South Africa A earlier in the year against Sri Lanka A, but it seems a little odd that's as far as he's progressed as he's been putting in consistently good performances for some time now.

I wonder if the selectors are thinking about Bedingham potentially for the ODI side?
Well he was in the A side 50 over squad in their most recent ODI matches. Made a good 100. Pressume he is in the conversation.

Was Mulder ever gonna play? Last WC they went 6 batsmen-jansen-4 specialist bowlers.
Was in the last ODI squad and unless we want to continue the long tail issues we need to change something. Mulder at 7 with Jansen at 8 gives more assurances.

Based on the Youtube comments in the coverage of the CSA-Lions game it seems South African cricket followers are pretty excited about some of the young talent coming through (especially amongst batters). Certainly giving our emerging talent a bit of a hiding

Kwena Maphaka and Tristan Luus can bowl balls over 145 semi-regularly so at this stage I would say those are the 2.

No idea on Gideon Peters speeds but I guess until he plays regularly he won't be getting a look in.

Looking forward to watching Coke Week in a couple of weeks to see what is what there.
Matthew Boast can bowl in the 140's and can bat aswell ..

Very promising player

But will Mulder recover in time for champions trophy?

It was a bit of mix and match team from us. Some who would make the A team & others a few tings below.

Jordan Hermann is the one I'm most excited about but he has a bit of a queue so hoping he gets game time in County cricket.
