South Africa team selection

Lesego gone to 50 v England Lions

Remember @Dendarii asking why someone like him went to Emerging tour at his age.

He actually does look the biz when he scores runs & I just wonder if he is proof of pushing players before they were ready when younger to meet certain requirements is never smart. Right now he is giving himself a chance of a Proteas cap even if a little while away.
That's a very valid point, and I wonder how many other players there have been who would have benefited from being held back rather than pushed too early to the detriment of their career. I completely understand the need for transformation, but cricket just hasn't got it right.

It might depend on conditions. If we go with two spinners then it seems ridiculous for Linde not to be the second one. But if it's just one spinner then Maharaj has got enough credit for him to be the first choice.

I'd look at it slightly differently though...Linde needs to be in the conversation for our LO number 7. He needs to be competing for that role and not just as a spinner.

Is batting 6 too high? Thing is we have to fit in a wrist-spinner, Rabada, Nortje, Jansen & Maharaj?

Walter seemed to be talking that without Mulder they needed to look at AR options with Champs Trophy in mind and hence Linde.

Even was going on selecting Jason Smith was because he could bowl overs but that is a bit of a stretch.

I would much rather have du Swart get a shot if Mulder is not in the mix at 6. Linde should be at 7 if selected. Right now I would not be against a policy of batting deep in our LO squads. Which would mean someone like Maharaj losing out unfortunately.

Who does he displace from the Top 6 though?
I'm assuming Rassie is still in the mix and that's fair enough, so how do we fit in Rassie, Temba, Stubbs, Markram, Rickelton, Miller and Klaasen??

Listening and watching the CSA XI v England and CSA XI 172/3 and listening to Steyn on commentary. Hermann on 103. Haven't a clue what is going on. Stanley bowling who was not playing in the 1st innings. Now got a wicket. So not a f/c game.

See that CSA lead by 323 runs.
Heard that Key, Wright (selector) and Mark Wood are out there

Good problems to have I guess. But ideally Linde is a 7 for international cricket.

Its going to be interesting to see if Bavuma, Vd Dussen & Miller will be around for 2027.

I am confident about Miller barring injuries..home WC perfect sendoff for a stalwart through good and bad times.

Bavuma I worry about fitness given his hamstring and elbow issues over the last few years.

Rassie's form hasn't been great for a bit. If they were to move on from someone he is the one in the most danger.

It will be interesting to see what they do regarding champions trophy as they simply must find a spot for Stubbs.

I'm thinking along the lines of:

1. Bavuma (C)
2. Rickelton (WK)
3. Markram
4. Stubbs
5. Klaasen
6. Miller
7. Linde/Mulder
8. Jansen
9. Rabada
10. Maharaj
11. Shamsi/Nortje

I think if you go with Linde then Nortje plays but if you go for Mulder then Shamsi surely has to play.

I guess Markram could also open and you slot Verreynne at 4. I actually like that idea of Verreynne in the middle overs of a 50 over game. I think he has the nudge/nurdle game.

The 4-day game between SA Invitational and England Lions is rather bewildering..

It's a one off, unofficial game where both sides are using more than eleven players, how does that benefit the players ?
Cause even if you do score runs or take wickets you'll never know for sure if it meant anything cause you aren't playing real match circumstances.
