While this victory was great I think it's highlighted why Shukri is backing Mulder. If Mulder can get consistent runs (not even 100s) and operate as the 5th bowler it does wonders to the side. Jansen still has his off days which get exposed in these 4 man attacks.

Infact I think he backs Mulder to have less off days than Jansen. It's just that when Jansen gets it together he is unplayable. Left arm pace with movement from that height is not something you grow up facing.

Keshav has been massive for us. These are his stats in the 4th innings. It's changed our cricket having a spinner who can be relied on to bowl teams out. Long live the King (Maharaj)!

Become a banker for us. That sounds under-stated but it's not necessarily easy to be that.

Considering even the 3 coastal venues which brings spinners more into play still offer loads for seamers and quicks.

Having a reliable fifth bowler definitely helps, but it requires having that all-rounder who can be who can also hold their own with the bat. It looks like Mulder's finally becoming what we've always wanted him to be, but his injury has highlighted that we're still very short on decent all-round options.

Muthusamy not playing might mean that he's now not being seen as that all-rounder, although if he had played then Rickelton wouldn't, so in hindsight it would seem to have been the right call (although not so much if Rickelton had failed...). Ruan de Swardt having been picked to play against the England Lions suggests that's he's still on the radar, so his performance in that match could end up being important.

We have hardly played two spinners at home never mind two of the same type.

Will be interesting to see what Shukri does if wiaan is fit for centurion. All 7 batsmen have contributed at some point during the year so who gets the chop.

Yeah if Muthusamy plays then Maharaj doesn't and you play four quicks. Given even your third quick was Paterson the cupboard was much barer than usual, and Maharaj had bowled well so it didn't work on this occasion.

I still like him and he's a good role player option in the squad.

He actually does look the biz when he scores runs & I just wonder if he is proof of pushing players before they were ready when younger to meet certain requirements is never smart. Right now he is giving himself a chance of a Proteas cap even if a little while away.

I actually had the same feeling watching him. Simelane could fall under this bracket soon because even though there is undeniable talent, he definitely isn't ready for International cricket just yet.

If you go overall bedders has a 5 point advantage 34 vs 29.
If you go only this year then rickelton has it with 36 vs 33.
