That's what you might think.yeah, and you don't need to have test quality players to gain test status, just look at bangladesh in 99 for example. Plus just right now the irish team's way better than bangladesh in 99. So if ireland have a decent team(not test quality) like they do now and the meet the other criteria standards than the icc will give them test status at which no more irishmen will play more england(well for the most part)
Sell-out on their country, what nonsense is this? Most people want to play for the best team they can, which is why all English, Welsh, Scottish and Irish cricketers have always played for England and in county cricket. Anyone who limited himself to playing for Ireland just because he felt he was deserting his country by not doing would be utterly mad. Some people might care about playing for a team with zero chance of winning but most people doesn't sell out on their country.
Yes, obviously - that certain point, however, should not be reached until a country is strong enough to compete in Test cricket.Uh, it's not a bad thing to give any team test status if they qualify for other the other stuff. That's the only way it's going to expand and the icc is about expanding. The icc doesn't a billions of dollars to give to the developing countries and so after a certain point the only way they will move forward is by gaining test status.
a country can't be strong enough without the money and the most likely a country will get that money is if they play test cricket.Sell-out on their country, what nonsense is this? Well, I wouldn't go that far. I can't imagine Fleming or Vaughan having desires to play for Australia, myself. Most people do want to play at the highest level though, which is why Irish and Scottish born players tend to be want to play county cricket and then for England if they are good enough. Most people want to play for the best team they can.
Í'm quite aware of that. Ireland aren't the ones who whinged about Joyce's defection - silly fans like you are. And I'm quite aware of the Johnston/Bray situation as well, however they would not have played for Ireland if they could have been selected for Australia, which is the point.uh, they never whinged about Joyce playing for England. They thanked him for helping them get to the wc. And no Johnston and them didn't move to Ireland because they couldn't play for Australia etc. they moved there for personal reasons.
Perhaps what I meant was "at the highest level they can".Well, I wouldn't go that far. I can't imagine Fleming or Vaughan having desires to play for Australia, myself. I'm fairly confident that they'd be content with playing for Ireland if Ireland had test status, but they don't because they simply aren't good enough. It is a shame that a player like Joyce can't play for Ireland in the World Cup, but at the same time, it'd be a crying shame if he turned out to be a top class batsman and yet couldn't be tested at the game's ultimate level - test cricket. And, for every Joyce, there are three Trent Johnstons - guys that make whinging about Joyce highly hypocritical. I'm sure Johnston, Bray and Langford-Smith would have played for Australia if they were good enough.
really? I don't see that way. I get their point of view but it's still disloyal none the less. But they're not being disloyal to their country - that's a ridiculous accusation.
England is as much Joyce's country as Ireland is if he's happy that way. If I$C$C weren't so expansion-obsessed, no-one would count the two as separate anyway.ok but yeah you can call it being disloyal i guess when your domestic teams needs you and you play international team. But prioritize whats more important- domestic or your country, you country. prioritize what's more important your country or different country, it should be your country but the other way is totally fine. just that your not loyal to your country.
Uh, i don't think the ICC divided Ireland from England...oh don't tell me that the ICC divided the British empire to independent australia,nz,india, bangladesh, pakistan, sri lanka, south afica, and the rest of the commonwealth too because they were so expansion-obsessed?England is as much Joyce's country as Ireland is if he's happy that way. If I$C$C weren't so expansion-obsessed, no-one would count the two as separate anyway.
