Should ODI cricket go?

One thing I've found on late is that I enjoy neutral JAMODIs more than those involving my own team. I was going to say it's because I'm not always clued in to how close to full strength the sides are so don't have the feeling of meaninglessness, but in all honestly it's applied too even when I know first-choice players are sitting out. Maybe it's just that much easier to subconsciously not care about relevance and meaning and just enjoy the game for what it is along with any drama that may arise

Shocker
Mate have a spell........did I give you crap when you joined here? @Line and Length @Bijed @Red_Ink_Squid etc (as relative noted newcomers) did I abuse any of them???

No, because they are quality posters. I don't pick on new members, I just call out knobs and **** posting. I thought this davado blokes comments on Shane Warne were particularly revolting.........we had a 30page thread after his passing and there was genuine mourning for the man on this forum........if any existing member had made similar comments at the time they'd have been strung up. Yet we're gonna wear it from this prick?

Not me.

Truthfully, there's room for all formats, and always has been. As an analogy chess has classical, rapid, and blitz chess, and all are accommodated. I mean, competitive GM chess players will say they hate one or the other format, but that's because they're freak masochists whose chosen profession makes them go crazy ( just joking BTW ). However, they certainly appreciate that viewers will find some different value in each format, and gives them some different way to showcase their talents and abilities (and get paid).

The one's looking to squeeze out certain formats of the game of cricket are the most crass of commercialists, running their tables and ROI charts to try and figure out what gives them more buck for the buck.

In reality it's the cricket fans and cricket players together who should make the decisions as to how much of the different forms of cricket should be played, but unfortunately we live in a place far from the platonic ideal of a world.
Apart from the fact that if you compare something to chess you’ve instantly weakened your point, the issue in cricket, unlike in chess, is that physical fitness comes into play.

That's everything I would have liked to say. There is lot of nostalgia surrounding ODIs from the bygone era. Even bilateral ODI series were big events. When in 2006 India lost test series but won ODI series in Pakistan, it felt like overall we came even. That's how important bilateral ODI series used to feel. That's not the case anymore. I kinda feel guilty about not caring that much for ODI series anymore lol
There used to be a time when Sri Lanka toured India once in 4 years for ODI series. We all waited eagerly for Jayasuria, Vaas, Murali, Jayawardene and Attapatu.

Besides that, beating Sri Lanka was hard in ODIs, especially in ICC tournaments where they brought their A game.

Nah not really since the different formats in chess can be incredibly draining on the players - not to mention the prep beforehand as well
Yes; that’s why I specified physical.
I’m sure chess is very mentally draining, and I’m sure cricket can be too. But there is zero argument for chess being physically draining.

Physical fitness is extremely important for playing chess at the highest level, I daresay, almost as much as it is required in cricket.

this can't be true

May be equating to cricket is mildly exaggerating but physical fitness is quite important for a chess player.

Mentally draining can equal physically draining though
Are we really arguing that chess is as physically exhausting as cricket? ****ing hell never knew chess was the ultimate sport - football, rugby, basketball, boxing, MMA - all nothing. The real peak of athletic and physical ability is all chess.

They are hardly going to say it’s a **** sport that takes no physical toll are they? It’s not even comparable.

So are you saying that cricket is as demanding as the above sports? Should have made Dwayne Leverock play football and see.

I never said cricket was anywhere near as draining as any of those sports though. My point is chess is also nowhere near as physically demanding as cricket is.
Anand is hardly going to say "nah it's easy I just sit there and move a couple of pieces about" now is he?

There is still zero argument chess is anywhere near as physically draining as cricket.
