Should ODI cricket go?

Yeah not sure if it was this thread or another where I said it but they just feel like friendlies. T20is do too but they’re quick, light entertainment. Giving up a whole day for something that doesn’t really matter is quite hard to justify. Unless you’re at the game which is a whole other matter.
They should do a "winner's / loser's bracket" type format in the next World Cup, based on their performance in the intervening years.

If I understand the World Cup Super League properly, it looks like there's no consequence to the main cricket nations for doing poorly throughout the years, as long as they make the top 8, which doesn't seem too hard if you can bash the occasional minnows. This absolutely needs to be changed.

Tests don't have this problem because they always feel like they matter. That's why this "WTC" bollocks they're trying to push is an abomination and I'm embarrassed for anyone who's fallen for it.
Sometimes bollocks are fun though! XD

Still, you're right in one sense though as I'll be damned if anyone's going to make me call NZ some kind of "defending champs" of Test cricket at the moment. Just hilarious.

well they are abandoning that whole format for the next cycle and going back to qualifying by rankings. (part of why this thread was created.)

I find this more offensive than your puerile lesbian women's cricket **** you wheeled out (for which I'm bemused as to why you're still a member of this forum).

Welcome back from 2008, which is around the last time an ODI was '40 overs of singles'. Actually based on your persona, you're probably from much further back in the dark ages. And T20 probably fits your intellect - hurrr durr hit ball yahoo fireworks me want hot dog beer yay wicket me go home now

The last World Cup was fantastic, which revealed the problem with ODIs: not a soul in the world gives a solitary **** about the result of 99% of them. Not even the teams involved. The best bowlers are either rotated or phone it in, and any vaguely interesting new ideas or tactics are saved for WC games. Sometimes it feels like a four-year exercise in playing dead. Every sport is turgid when you can't convince yourself that the result matters.

When you get a stadium full of fans and two teams giving it everything it's like a totally different game.
Exactly. ODI as a format is fine. The problem is the number of meaningless bilateral ODIs nowadays. Frankly, since the 2000s, I havent given a damn about ODIs unless its an ICC tournament.

The main issue with T20 is that the format is so short that the odds of one team flukeing a victory based on a good/bad couple of overs is quite high. So again its hard to care unless its a world cup.

In that sense, ODIs and tests are still decent assessments of players skills.

I like you but this is disappointing. Didn't think you would be so sensitive. You can't go around making controversial opinionated comments and then cry if someone says mean things to you about it. Develop a thicker skin

of course it is. There are a disproprtionately large amount of lesbians in cricket.
its a valid topic . And im still mystified why there so many

And by the way its not 'homophobic' any more than saying- look at that black man- is being racist
Im only mentioning the out and proud lesbians. Theyre obviously not ashamed so why should i be when pointing it out?

ODIs being good isn't "nostalgia" it's a statement of fact, that it's a good form of the game and we know it is because we've seen it be so for decades - it's not tests, but it's also not pure **** like the other thing. The format did not somehow pass its use by date or become bad cricket because it's space got taken up by T20, we just replaced a good thing with a **** thing.
i think all of these things are definitely true to us who care enough about cricket to post on the cricketweb forum

and tbh if we were the only stakeholders who the boards sought to maximise the welfare of the on field product would be way better! alas.
