Peter Roebuck dies

Not sure that the Daily Mail counts as either "respected" or "preferable". Happy for my post to be deleted.

A lot of insensitive posting here. I doubt we need the conspiracy theories a la Woolmer. With Roebuck the reasons were obviously very personal.

Anyway he polarised opinions but indisputably had an eloquent turn of phrase.

Roebuck was one of my favourite commentators. I like how he told things as they were and wasn't shy about it either. Will be missed.

Amazing news that he took his own life.

Was Woolmer also suicide?

Does anyone else think that the two incidents are related (police paying him a visit and then him committing suicide).

RIP

A man who divided you much like marmite. Sad way to end.

Not going to get involved in any speculation, it will all come out in the end if there is anything. No point trying to guess and act clever later, serves no purpose.

Just read that article and that is almost like some Conspiracy theories / Speculation coming true.

The details are still sketchy, but more should emerge soon. The way these are disclosed though, certainly sometimes raises suspicion.

Jesus Christ. That suggests he was questioned about an alleged ***ual assault, which is sordid enough, but also a uniformed officer was in his room when he took the plunge. :-O

Man, that smells and it smells bad.
Uh...yea, that's very shady. Especially as he had called someone else asking for a lawyer, etc...at least implying he was thinking rationally. That is very odd indeed.

He probably remembered Ross Kemp’s episode on South African prisons and thought flying out of window was better than ending up there.

Interesting that that article suggests he was looking for character witnesses - those three African kids he enjoyed spanking were probably not the sort he was after.

Bob Woolmer --- Peter Roebuck.

Similarity -----_> Suicide
------> Death just after an incident i.e Pak losing World Cup, Australia/SA bundling out for under hundred score

Rings a bell!

M4tch-Fixing.

Assumption only.

This is a great loss. Having been away from Australia and cricket for some time now I am returning home this summer for a visit and was looking forward to turning on the radio and hearing the long game described by my favourite commentators, one of whom was Roebuck. I have always preferred him on air. He was incisive, caustic, to-the-point and at times deliberately disagreeable. He didn't fawn over players and he didn't display bias. While I have not always enjoyed his writing there is no doubt he was a unique and intelligent voice that the game cannot replace. For me cricket is the only sport where it is just as enjoyable to listen to the game being described as it is to watch it. Now Roebuck is gone that enjoyment will not be as great and the descriptions will not be a good.

Oh man the more information that's received, the worse the picture gets.

Is it really necessary to be that specific over how he died? Can't they just report on how he led his life, what he achieved, and why he'll be missed?

Tact, c'mon. It's what he would have wanted from his peers.

RIP :(

I suspect that if even half of what I've seen alluded to is true the story will take on a darker hue in the days to come. Inasmuch as a man's suicide can become darker.

Inclined to disagree - if, and I do stress if it turns out he was involved in a ***ual assault, it's important that it comes out - it would be hugely unfair to the victim of said assault for it be swept under the carpet just because he was famous. As it is I'm sure we're all hoping for the best but the whole situation certainly looks a bit more grim than it did earlier in the day.

Oh the assault is a different kettle of fish, I'm referring to the details they're going into on just how he took his own life. It's painting a very vivid and terrifying picture.
