Peter Roebuck dies

Oh the assault is a different kettle of fish, I'm referring to the details they're going into on just how he took his own life. It's painting a very vivid and terrifying picture.
Oh right, my bad. That's fair enough though - I suppose with something like this where there would have been a fairly large commotion at the scene, they could never really have kept it under wraps.

I don't want to indulge in idle speculation or don my tinfoil hat, but if we assume, in lieu of other reliable sources, he did indeed take his own life, at the very least there's been a massive dereliction of duty by the officer(s) in his room.

Surely one wouldn't let an obviously distressed and agitated man anywhere near a window on the 6th floor? & one might also suppose a policeman might overpower a 55yo quite comfortably, even one who's an ex-sportsman.

So much still to come out, I think.

Was a big fan of his writing. He was simply the best in business. Read his farewell piece to Ganguly and you know you are listening to the master. Feeling terrible that he killed himself. As someone working in an equally competitive, glamourous and ultimately lonely industry like the one Peter was part of (although with much much less success compared to him), I am particularly disturbed that a learned and successful man like him should resort to suicide to deal with his problems. Having said that, I sincerely hope that his end was his choice alone and whatever other doubts we may develop from hearing bits and pieces of news all turn out to be nothing.

May he rest in peace.

Lets wait for the inquest to be completed so more complete information emerges.

There's two issues for mine. The first being that the police will need to justify their involvement in the matter. Was due care taken? Was counselling administered? It would have been a pretty public death, so any attempt to change the details would have come out eventually.

Then there's also the fact the more transparent the revelations, the less ammunition it provides to the crazies (you've seen a few of them in this thread).

Definitely think we should refrain from too much idle speculation on this. Sounds a fairly horrendous situation.

Re: the copper in the room, too early to tell whether he could have stopped Roebuck.

Craddock in his article today said that Roebuck often deliberately chose less flash digs.

Anyway, unfortunate he didn't stay at a Best Western - jump off the top floor there, and you'd just get a broken ankle and scratches.

Yeah but it seems they were all staying there.

Proximity to the ground is one thing, but the game had ended ffs.

Christ's sake. Dire.
