Pakistan Tour of South Africa 2018/19

U19 Captain
And you just know if de Bruyn does get dropped for Hamza the word 'quota' is going to get mentioned. The surprise that Hamza got picked initially by the SA public was shocking. We have been discussing him for 3 years on here?
Yeah but De Bruyn can't have any complaints. He had his chance.

Not vintage Amla, nowhere near, but 3 important knocks in this series and he still may end up as the leading run scorer.

So I asked this on another forum, but I still haven't gotten any clarity: Supersport now have his name as Sarfaraz when it was Sarfraz last test. Why? ESPNCricinfo have kept Sarfraz's spelling. I know Abdul Razzaq occasionally changed to Abdur. Is it just an anomaly of converting between nastaliq and Roman scripts? But then why the sudden change?

Did you ask this on PP? People are useless there. I think his actual spelling is Sarfaraz

How old is Amla now? 34? 35? He'll be retiring very soon, and it's hard to imagine South Africa competing without him.

So did Bavuma but...
LOL Bavuma averages in the mid 30's - which is of course, far from great - but he's kept the innings together with his 50s etc, especially important when playing in tougher conditions. EIther way, not even remotely compared to Theunis, who LITERALLY averages <20 including that ton in SL.

He got a lot of opportunity for someone who averages 30. Bin him and give De Bruyn a couple of series And then we can move on to someone new.

In the last twelve months, Bavuma has played 7 matches and averaged 40 while De Bruyn has played 6 and averaged 25. Why would you pick De Bruyn over Bavuma?

His argument is that Bavuma got more chances than de Bruyn has had so he should continue. Since then Bavuma has started to come right (still needs to convert). Although Bavuma did score a ton (his only one) and 2 fifties in the same number of innings early, along with a good few other 30's. He went through a bad patch after that.

De Bruyn has had it tough moving up and down the order a few times. The reason I am losing confidence is the consistent manner in which he gets out to unnecessary loose shots. Silly pulls, swiping at wide ones. He has shown no growth since he has come into the team, I really had hoped that the SL ton would turn him around. Yesterdays shot showed no situational awareness. Bavuma has shown temperament from day 1, de Bruyn has shown great striking ability and little temperament. Maybe he could be persevered with for the SL tests, but maybe seeing Hamza before the Indian series might be a good thing to.

I think Bavuma has really carved out a niche for himself as collapse-preventer. I'd think about de Bruyn ahead of him in the event that South Africa wanted to play five bowlers but Faf was injured, for example, but if you're picking a #6 bat it should definitely be Temba at this stage.
