Overrated/Underrated

LongHopCassidy

International Captain
Very underrated. Silky smooth opener and genius in the slip cordon, but will always be remembered for his slump.

Michael Slater?

Under-rated by the Australian selectors. Rated about right by everyone else. Quality batsman.

Gavin Rennie.

Tom Halsey

International Coach
Underrated (people have a go at him for his Test record, when he played on ropey pitches, and was past his best by the advent of Test cricket).

Adam Gilchrist.

Jono

Virat Kohli (c)
Think we did him but we'll do it again. Gilly is underrated with the gloves and rated just about right with the bat at test cricket. ODI cricket he's a great, but can be overrated by some sometimes.

Underrated. Was a much better bowler than anybody, including the selectors, appreciated.

Len Hutton?
lol. id say 'even'. dont hear much about him..

but his 'obstruction' was probably underrated, its clearly the funniest thing ever to happen.

hows about...

Bruce Reid?

Dissector

International Debutant
Underrated. He looked mediocre but he has a fine record averaging about 27 and taking almost 4 wickets per game.

I haven't read the whole thread so to reduce the chances of a repeat let me pick an oldie:

Over-rated. Was clearly an excellent batsman but I'm not sure if he was a good as Bradman like many say. Obviously, hard to say without seeing him in action.

The fact that one of the best batsmen of the 80's hasn't even been mentioned in this thread may already answer this question but.....

Only in the very first post! :D

Still underrated though.

Allan Lamb?

International Regular
honestbharani posted,

Inzy is slightly under rated. The only thing that is missing in his resume are some big innings against Australia in Australia. But people are finally starting to give him his due recently.
I'd say that the only country Inzi hasn't performed against is South Africa, not Australia. (Inzy's record in Australia is actually fairly good, averaging something like 38 [a few half-centuries] in 1994/5 and 42 [a century and an 88] in 1999/20 - it's the recent Perth test [1, 0] which is mainly responsible for bringing down his average)

Edit: Alan Lamb was a good finisher. Underrated, I'd say.

Saqlain Mushtaq

Jungle Jumbo

International Vice-Captain
Underrated: Fell into Saqlain's shadow, and has shown that he is potent on English tracks in county cricket.
