This is a good start by India. They haven't even looked to play shots yet. They've just played the merit of the ball. Have to admit they look very good, lovely to look when they attack. Defence not so much but shot making they look in awesome balance.

Don't wanna jinx him, but think Southee is starting to find his range.

Maybe slightly too full there as I type, but it's the sort of wicket where it's better to be too full than too short.

Seriously impressive from Rohit so far. Nice to see him willing to play square of the wicket. Too many batsmen fall in love with the V in England when its not the region you necessarily need to be targeting to score runs.

These guys are good at punishing full balls even if it swings. We need to be a bit back of the length like we did during the world cup.

Rohit's showing incredible judgement.

Gill isn't but he's got away with it so far and played some nice shots too.

Excellent start, sensible from India. NZ possibly taken in a bit by the conditions and trying too much. From the last 2 tests fair to say they’ll get movement with the slightly older ball so need to settle down a bit and cut down on the scoring opportunities.

Boult definitely looked better to Rohit in that over.

Jamieson, this is the crucial spell. Ball is 10 overs old and if he shows reasonable control we can turn it around.

Is every commentator contractually obliged to mention this is Gill's first test in England?

Think the fact has been established now, chaps.
