That over in which Taylor hit Ashwin for two boundaries was super important, the latter was threatening to make serious inroads then.

Had my reservations on Taylor’s efforts of late but his class has been absolutely vital today.
Yes the game was dead after that. India never had a chance realistically IMO. I had NZ 99% favourites when chase started

Congratulations to New Zealand on a thoroughly deserved win. Their turnaround from Pakistan's national punching bag to the best in the world has been sensational. I know this is cliched but Daddy Kane and The Boss taking them home was picture perfect. NZ extracted a clinical victory from a near certain draw. KW with 100 runs on a tricky surface against the best opposition he could've had proves his record in England is an aberration rather and an inaccurate reflection of his technical genius. So glad my man Battling Jattling Watling is going out on a high. Kept damn perfectly for the match and was instrumental in NZ's crucial away win in Sri Lanka. What a champion. And it appears the blond beast truly is pace bowling perfection. Shout out to my main man Wagner who too improved on his record in England and delivered on the final day yet again. Southee and Boult got the job done in the end too despite not looking their best. The runs from the former worth their weight in gold and he's been high key high quality throughout the tournament. We must now pronounce spin bowling dead and buried.

Everest conquered, plant the flag and hold the summit.

I never thought I would see it. I know we fans fiercely debate everything to do with this team and who is in it, who should do what etc but what binds us is posting in these tour threads at ungodly hours through thick and thin and cheering on the team because in the end, we just want our team to win and to be full of players we love.

I had to take a piss I've been holding in for two hours and I think a few tears also went into the bowl.

Sport really is the best.

Thank you to the Indian fans. You've been really great to yarn with in this thread tbh, the atmosphere in here for such a high pressure occassion has been amazing given some of the intense tour threads and subforums on CW over the years. It really sucks to lose close finals, we know, but nothing we opposition fans say can make it easier. Your team is cool, it has genuine ATGs in it and I hope they give you lots more to cheer over the next few years (except when you play us of course).

Just an all round great game, and one I'm glad I went nocturnal for.

I reckon even if India had survived for another half hour or so, there might have been enough run rate pressure on NZ to make this a much more nervy chase. Pathetic batting performance.
I’m the first one to lay into the Indian side in terms of criticism but I think the bowling here was just excellent. While they could have certainly batted better, it’s more a case of fantastic bowling than poor batting.

You should probably be a writer or something.

Whatever it takes!!!
yeah barring today's collapse by India it has been some of the highest quality test cricket I have seen in years... Reminds of me Ind-SA in 2010 with Steyn Vs Sachin. If we had not lollapsed badly today, I would have said no shame in the defeat. I mean, even now no shame in losing to NZ who were far better, but we should have done better, but that can be discussed on another day in another thread. This is about NZ and its their moment.

Do  the Kane and Ross bromance too. What a way to go for RT if this is indeed it. BJ Watling deserves this too. And so does Wagner and Southee. None of these guys seem to figure much in the LO set up for them, I mean apart from Ross, so its great for them to actually be proper World Champs. :)

Brilliant for NZ, they really, really deserve this and I hope their fans deservedly ride this high for a long time

Really good match too, wasn't until the last hour or so that I felt any of the potential results was truly off the table

Fine effort by NZ to be fair. Yeah it was a good toss to win, but bar a good start by India, after day 2 NZ were clearly the best side.
