This all sounds like a positive step, although a suspicious part of my brain makes me wonder if the likely upper-tier players Satterthwaite and Tahuhu were swapped for unproven youngsters for this very reason.
i agree with the suspicious part of your brain and wonder whether there are some clauses the press release aren't sharing

Not read the details so correct me if I'm wrong, but this inevitably means the male players will have a pay reduction right? Or is the money coming from somewhere else?

Nah, men have gone up too. It sounds like it comes from an increased share of NZC revenue going to players - up to 29.75%.

In terms of the contracts handed out, the highest-ranked New Zealand women's player will be able to earn up to of NZ$163,246 a year (up from $83,432), the ninth-ranked, NZ$148,946 ($66,266), and the 17th-ranked NZ$142,346 ($62,833).

The top-ranked women's domestic players in each major association will be able to receive a maximum of $19,146 (up from $3,423), the sixth-ranked $18,646 ($3,423), and the 12th-ranked $18,146 ($3,423).

New Zealand’s professional men’s players, whose match fees at T20I, ODI, Ford Trophy, and Dream11 Super Smash level will be the same as the women, will earn higher retainers, based on the increased number of matches played, formats contested, and time spent training and playing.

They have also received increases on current levels, the top-ranked BLACKCAP able to receive a maximum of $523,396 (up from $459,574), the tenth-ranked $444,196 ($377,981), and the 20th-ranked $367,196 ($305,453).

Additionally, the highest-ranked domestic men’s player in each Major Association would be in line to receive a maximum of $102,707 (up from $94,437), the eighth-ranked $87,307 ($77,357), and the 16th-ranked $75,207 ($64,406).

More revenue to players has to be a good thing, must be a big drop for wherever else the money was going before though. Hopefully it was just unecessary corporate bloat and not important grass roots funding or support services or some such

Sattherwaite was swapped because her strike rate was 69 in a tournament where 280+ was required to beat the best teams. At 35, she no longer has a game to match the skill set of women's cricket in 2022 and beyond. And Tahuhu couldn't be trusted in the big moments.

Nah. Satterthwaite has at least shown she can score runs - which is better than a lot of specialist NZ bats can do; didn't we just end up playing an insane number of bowlers in the WC because bringing in a 20-averaging specialist bat wasn't worth it? Can Tahuhu not be trusted in the big moments? I don't remember, perhaps: but I'm not sure any bowler but Mackay could be trusted in pressure situations. Mackay had her contract cut as well.

I think experience is valuable for the NZ womens' team right now (what with likely half the players being 21 or younger), which I suppose is why they're giving games to youngsters to develop that experience. But I don't like it.

Which part are you say nah to? I'm telling you, that is precisely why Sattherthwaite has been moved on. 35 years old, not a particularly fast scorer, they want to build a future that can complete with Australia and England who look to score 300 every time. There's enough experience in that side with Bates, Devine, Melie Kerr, Maddy Green, Jensen etc.

The Frankie Mackay decision, I have no idea about and I don't rate it. I do think she made an arse of herself afterwards however, with all the Ross Taylor v Amy Sattherthwaite retirement tour BS.

She's been crap recently, right? I wonder if this is just a temporary retirement, to get herself back on track to where she was.

I`m almost glad... she really hasn't performed great. Will miss her experience, hopefully Dane gets back soon.
Yep they will miss her experience, but there is that touchy issue of weight and size I know she was called for that in the past. But aargh I dunno, delicate subject
