Congrats Fidel Edwards (1* off 33) for sticking it out and saving the draw!

3-run, 71-ball last wicket stand with Ridley Jacobs (60*)

Told you the declaration was too late...

It's gonna be a draw.

Garage Flower, you'll know me from the Cricketgames.com forums, welcome to Cricket Web. I recently joined here.
Thanks Chubb. Just watched the last 5 overs on Cricinfo. What a finish! I'm still tipping Windies for the 2nd test. They can't be this bad again.

Looks like rain's saved Zimbabwe. Windies would've run through them for 130 and knocked them off by lunch tomorrow

Now THAT is arrogant..there is only one side in the world at the moment who could say that & actually perform it.
So Tim, the concept of irony is somewhat lost on you. You're not American are you?

Poor Zimbabwe

:( :(

After all they have been through, they deserved to win at least one test match. Ray Price is great, and what a story his life is. Read his biography and you'll see what a struggle his early years were.

You've seen him?
Seen his action - wouldn't go so far as to say I've "seen" him (that tends to mean watched him bowl ball-by-ball or at least in extended highlights) - but that surely doesn't matter. Simple fact of the matter is, bowlers who can bowl at 95 mph are very, very rare. Akhtar and Lee are the only ones who can going round ATM, and don't go on about Bond, Butler, Jones, Harmison etc. - they can't. Simple as.
From what I've heard a young fellow called Mitchell Johnson from SA (or was it Victoria?) could be an even quicker bowler than Brett Lee, but he's very troubled by injuries, which suggests he's got an unsustainable method.

Lawson can bowl at 95. Re: His action. It's a blend of Waqar and Thomson, both of whom touched 95 with ease. I don't see why he can't. He can already bowl at 91 mph consistently and he's bound to put on some size in the next couple of years... stronger upper body...

Mr M's Player Analysis

CH Gayle 1/10 - very little impact on the game.
WW Hinds 6/10 - well played in both innings, but a gifted wicket in each as well.
D Ganga 7/10 - well played in both. Unlucky in the 1st innings and a gifted wicket in the 2nd.
BC Lara 3/10 - a good 29 in the first but a poor shot in the end. Very rough decision in the second.
RR Sarwan 3/10 - big points lost for his fatal swipe.
S Chanderpaul 5/10 - determined innings on both occasions.
RD Jacobs 8/10 - big points for his fine innings of 60*.
VC Drakes 6/10 - well bowled in the second innings and accurate in the first.
JE Taylor 4/10 - resillience with the bat and a wicket on day 1.
CD Collymore 2/10 - very poor bowling in the first innings, but better in the second.
FH Edwards 9/10 - he gave 110% in this game.

Oh dear, Zimbabwe really deserved to win this one... Oh well it should give them and their supporters a bit of heart.. They did well in Sydney and now the Harare test...

In Ray Price, Blignaut, Taibu they have some very very good up and coming players.. For them its a case of separating the wheat from the chaff and waiting for better days to come around...

What I keep thinking is that look at how well they have done in recent tests, imagine if they had goodwin, flower and olonga with them?:( Im guessing they would have beaten the WI.

Hmm....

Goodwin, Andy Flower, Grant Flower would've been in ahead of Sibanda, Wishart, Matsikenyeri. Olonga would've been in for Mahwire.

Perhaps...

Omari Banks has to be picked for the second Test. Taylor will be fit, so I would suggest that Collymore will miss out for the next Test. Ideally I would like to see Banks in as a fifth bowler, with four seamers, but that would mean dropping a batsman. The only batsman who struggled really was Gayle and I consider Gayle to be our no. 1 opener.

So my Trini friend, the side should look like:

CH Gayle, WW Hinds, D Ganga, *BC Lara, RR Sarwan, S Chanderpaul, +RD Jacobs, OAC Banks, VC Drakes, JE Taylor, FH Edwards.

Would you drop Ganga and bring in Dillion? Very inexperienced bowling line-up.

How can they drop Ganga, he's finally finding his feet at international level with some consistent performances - I love watching this guy bat!

But I agree they need Dillon, there is really no point bringing him on tour unless he plays.

Craig

Well they wont drop Sarwan and Chanders, and you will need to take out a batsman to bring in Dillion if you want 4 quicks and a spinner.

They could perhaps risk 5 specialist bats with Banks and Drakes in the side, but it would be hard on Ganga who would presumably be the one to miss out.

I think they should probably go for it though, so my team would be as Craig's, but with Dillon (batting at 9) for Ganga.

You can't drop Ganga. He played a chanceless 73 in the 1st innings. He didn't even get beaten.

If you're going to drop someone, it has to be Gayle or Hinds. Generally I would say that it would be Hinds, but Gayle looks very much out of sorts right now.

I agree! I saw so much promise in Ganga when I saw him at the GABBA on the 2000 tour of Australia (it was his test debut I think) he has such an elegant and compact technique but his only problem was he good defend fine enough, but scoring runs was something he couldn't do. Now he has developed full circle and has one of the better techniques in world cricket at the moment and he has finally found some consistency (his two hundreds against Australia were superb) and it would be extremely hard on him to be dropped and might do a disservice to his confidence. When he gets over the mental hurdle of not giving his wicket away after making big starts (including hundreds) he will make some big scores.

Don't drop him!!!
