Young talent?
Banks - an average fingerspinner. No more. Most runs ever conceded on Test debut. Just about sums him up.
Lawson - yet to see him bowl, hopefully will soon have the chance, but apart from one seven-for and one hugely fortuitous hat-trick he's done little in proper Test-cricket. Looks a reasonable one-day bowler.
Edwards - one Test. Heard some decent reports, but you really can't judge someone on two First-Class games.
Taylor - one ODI with a decent performance. Nothing in Tests.
Sorry to harp back to this ancient post, but I'm new to the forum and couldn't let this twaddle go unanswered.
The 4th Windies v Australia test in Antigua this year provides just about all the ammo needed to refute the ill-informed garbage spouted above.
Banks - quote from Cricinfo report, 4th test: "Banks was bowling some lovely offspin, getting prodigious turn and bounce and troubling all the batsmen." It goes on to mention him having Chanderpaul dropping Love and Waugh in succesive overs. Banks suffered more than anyone from dropped catches in that series.
Lawson - "apart from one seven-for and one hugely fortuitous hat-trick he's done little in proper Test-cricket". What on earth are you talking about!? What more do you want from 7 test matches!? Again, from Cricinfo report of 4th test (wasn't a particularly quick or bouncy wicket by the way): "A superb display of sustained fast bowling". I watched it. It was.
Edwards - 2 tests, 2 5-fors. Obviously early days, but obviously bags of talent.
Devon Smith - I haven't quoted it above, but I think you wrote him off for being too agressive. Stats from the 4th test: 1st inns 37 from 74 balls; 2nd inns 23 FROM 94 BALLS. This against the best attack in the world in his first series.
It's moronic to write people off so early in their careers and way beyond moronic (supermoronic? hypermoronic? megamoronic?) when, by and large, they've actually started well.
That feels better.
I'll concentrate on the game in hand now.
