If Harmison, Giles and Hoggard were Indian, they'd doubtless be all-rounders now :)

Brian Lara's problems against the short ball are pretty bemusing. He's such a brilliant player otherwise that it's q bit shocking at how poor he can look against the short ball. After a bit of thought I've come up with a theory. Lara learned his cricket in the days of Walsh, Ambrose and co. Thus he grew up as a cricketer against a high standard of fast bowlers. Then his hook shot was far more comfortable than it is now and that can largely be attributed to age I'd think. As good as Lara is now (IMO better than he's ever been) his eye is surely not as sharp as it was in 1994. As such he's had to adjust his technique in order to cope with the short ball as he can't cope the same as he did in his youth.

That technical adjustment would typically take place in the nets or domestic cricket, but consider the type of bowlers Lara would be facing there. Not only does play only 1 or 2 game/s of domestic cricket per year, but the quality of bowlers he'll be facing in that time won't exactly present a great challenge in order that he be forced to improve his game. Indeed so few West Indian bowlers are capable of delivering a consistent spell of short bowling at difficult pace that Lara can't be benefitting much in correcting his area of concern.

As such Lara must do his correctional work at Test level and tends to suffer dismissal as a result. I have no doubt that Lara can eventually master this area of his game, but at the moment it's still very much a learning experience.

Simply put the state of West Indies cricket negatively affects the batting of Brian Lara in more ways than simply pressure.

Ian Bell has been Brilliant for England

West Indies are very poor

they should start afresh and a new skipper

Only Lara,Gayle,Chanderpaul, Sarwan, Collins, Collymore should stay they have to find 5 other good players

No, better give a few more teams victories on a plate, first!

Do you not think the selectors are trying to find players with talent?!

Look at the domestic competition - who the hell else are they going to pick?! They've tried so many bowlers in recent years that they're reduced to picking untested kids like Washington and Edwards, and journeymen like Sanford.

Four new players will only result in further beatings. England have an Indian sign over them at present and it's the reverse of the 1980s. There's no quick fix, and it'll take time to turn things around - but just look at England since 1999, it's possible so long as you have patience!

If Giles were Indian he would be playing Ranjis at best :p

Actually, if you look at his record in helpful conditions, you might revisit that opinion - his overall record is such because he plays so much cricket outside of those conditions.

In fact if you look at someone like Harbajan's record in those sorts of conditions, and you'd be saying he'd be playing Ranjis at best :p

just been watching Soccer AM all sports show on Sky Sports EXtra...they showed some footage from the last day at Old Trafford of Dwayne Bravo right up to Flintoff shouting to Fidel to get 'the big man' out.

They had the microphones turned right up..and Flintoff told Bravo that 'this game has a way of biting you on the ****' then said 'where will you be in 3 years time...you wont be here'......hehehehe..**** funny (I guess you had to see it) :D

PS I think Bravo will still be around in 3 years, but I guess if you are getting hammered around the park, you should keep your mouth shut :D
