Cricket Web Green v West Indians
at CWBCC Stadium

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

Once again, there were a few standout performances from the tourists, but without Gayle they came up short in their attempt to secure victory in a close game at the CWBCC Stadium. Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Marlon Samuels and Darren Sammy all deserved credit, but came up short against a solid Green team effort.

After being inserted, the tourists immediately faltered to eight for three, Rose tearing up with fine variation in length, and Forner having Morton caught slogging. However, Chanderpaul's dominant return to form gave the West Indians a competitive total, as he bashed five fours and ran well for his 80. Forner and Cunningham were thankful targets, but Speirs and Malone jnr. restored some control as Green came out of the final overs well. Only Forner was hit about, with Daren Powell scoring a six and a four off his final deliveries.

The reply was always closely paced, with none of the West Indian bowlers showing particular threat during the powerplays. Jermaine Lawson did get one excellent ball in at Lezama's legs, lbw for 29, but Nick Scott took over seamlessly at number three. After twenty overs, with the total at 99 for one, it was up to the spinners to limit the damage.

First, however, Darren Sammy got a snorter up at Malone jnr.'s nose, who fended away to Dave Mohammed. It could have been a turning point, had West Indies possessed the bowling strength to push the advantage; instead Scott hit boundaries in successive overs to relieve pressure. Mohammed bowled well enough to deserve more than the one wicket, having Garven stone dead on three, but Garven survived an exceptionally shaky start to guide his side well through the death overs, helped by the entry of Ben Read. Despite the requirement being 51 off the last eight overs, Collins and Lawson were unable to stop Read and Garven from the required boundaries, and Green won with nine balls to spare.

West Indians 229 for seven (50 overs)
MN Samuels 99, S Chanderpaul 80; JNE Forner 3-56, XPA Rose 2-34

Cricket Web Green 231 for four (48.3 overs)
NG Scott 51; DJG Sammy 2-35, D Mohammed 1-35

Cricket Web Green won by six wickets
Man of the Match: Ben Read (Green)

Great Test series win guys! Trav had a sensational debut - strike bowlers ftw.

Looking forward to getting ODI career back on track against the Windies - not been in the best form of late.

Seems our domestic sides have a tendency to be of the same quality as a few international sides that tour around here. :)

First ODI: Cricket Web XI v West Indies
at Fardin Qayyumi CC

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

Cricket Web XI took first spoils in a nervy, low-scoring encounter at Goffmouth, with Tom Halsey inciting the necessary zip into the innings despite another couple of good middle-over bowling performances by Sammy and Mohammed. It was, however, trumped by Liam Camps, who bowled two maidens in a spell with economy rate of two.

West Indies got off to a good start after being inserted, and Gayle and Ganga put on 49 before the seam bowlers finally found luck, Ganga hoiking to Markus for 26. Morton followed shortly after, and though West Indies averted the collapse, they were severely set back due to their long tail. Gayle and Chanderpaul were utterly tied down, especially by Camps, who found plenty of movement and beat the bat on plenty more occasions than one wicket in 10 overs would indicate. Chanderpaul stood tall, and began to attack once West Indies were four down, but with Bravo struggling to get anywhere, so did the scoreboard. Only Sammy's three boundaries and 15 extras took the total past 200; though the wicket was slow and the outfield slower, it hardly seemed enough.

The Webheads were in cruise control after the powerplay sessions, the total 97 for one after twenty overs with the well-versed ODI batsmen Markus and Cloete in. Jermaine Lawson had bowled a snorter to get rid of an uncertain Stedman, but it was Bravo's double catching strike at slip that gave the West Indies a slight chance. Mohammed and Sammy bowled tempting lines that caused a lot of empty swishes, before Markus swung across the line to a yorker from Mohammed...and missed completely.

With Crampton and Camps still to come and just 61 required, no one in Goffmouth were particularly worried. There were, after all, a few overs of Bravo and the seamers still to come. Bravo, however, provided one of those deliveries only he can bowl for the West Indies at present; a quick, inswinging ball that trapped Crampton lbw, then an outswinger edged for four, then an inswinger which shattered Camps' stumps. Six down and still 40 needed off the last ten overs.

Sammy and Bravo still had a couple of overs left, and though they shook up the batsmen, Halsey managed to settle with six at the end of their spell. With Lawson and Taylor back, Halsey edged and took off on every ball, while Butler, who had stolidly defended his way to 21, relieved pressure somewhat with a four off Bravo. In the end, Halsey hit eight off Taylor's ninth over and the Webheads won with 21 balls to spare.

West Indies 204 for seven (50 overs)
S Chanderpaul 72; NS Pickup 2-37

Cricket Web XI 206 for six (47.3 overs)
I Markus 55; D Mohammed 2-29

Cricket Web XI won by four wickets
Man of the Match: T. C. Halsey (Cricket Web XI)

Nice win guys, a bit harder then i thought you guys would win. But a win is a win.

Brillant stuff from all the Test guys, except me :(. It is really good to see us playing so well after some pretty average performances in the past. Young, Mork, Cloete and Bulter were amazing with the bat. Trav had a brillant debut series, i really reckon he could one of those players that really step up at Test level. The perfect type of bowler with our current bowling attack. Hopefully Smith doesn't gun it too much in the A series and i can retain my spot for the next series.
