Fifth ODI: Cricket Web XI vs West Indies
at CWBCC Stadium
Scorecard
Ball By Ball
The match was essentially lost for the West Indies when Daren Ganga was caught napping and run out, and Liam Camps pitched up a short ball to Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who promptly cut to Halsey and sent West Indies to 58 for three. With few proper batsmen to come, not even Denesh Ramdin's two sixes could help the West Indies to a respectably tally against fired-up wicket-taking specialists.
After bowling first, Kev Gough got the early strike as Gayle flashed at a wide one and was held by Cloete, but Ganga and Devon Smith rebuilt with good technique, including the occasional well-struck boundary, and at 53 for one in the tenth over a change of tactics was due. Camps was asked to take some pace off the ball in his next over, while Clapham was brought on for Gough; this brought five runs from the next 11 balls, and Ganga saw fit to set off for a suicidal single. Then came Chanderpaul's wild cut, and though Smith and Morton built up a useful partnership, they were unable to keep up a respectable run rate against the leg spin.
When they did try, Devon Smith outside edged Halsey to first slip, though the next two overs yielded 23 runs, resulting in the reintroduction of Clapham and Gough. Though Ramdin raced away, Gough had the luck to see Bravo flash at an inswinger and get caught behind, and Dwayne Smith dragged Clapham on in the next over. The tail couldn't handle Gough's pace and Pickup's spin, and the total ended at a meagre 178.
The chase was largely uneventful, with Stedman and Markus asserting dominance over the seamers as they added 99, before a double strike - including Cloete stumped for a two-ball duck - had the crowd temporarily worried. Ash Chaulk eased into his stride, however, lashing out for an unfortunate 49 not out after failing to score a single off Dwayne Bravo's last ball with the scores tied. Instead, Stedman picked the spot off Taylor, and the Webheads leisurely strolled for two to win the game.
