Third Test: Cricket Web XI vs West Indies
at PDV Dome

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

Chris Gayle and Runako Morton enjoyed one excellent morning's cricket, when they asserted dominance for the first time on tour. Then, the tourists faded back into defeated mode, giving up nine catches and 489 runs before failing to negotiate a rapidly wearing PDV wicket in the third innings. The hero remains Andrew Cloete, who registered his second 150 in the series as he took the Webheads from a difficult position at 77 for two and well into the lead.

Once again, West Indies batted first on a good pitch, and immediately fell into trouble against Demeza. It looked as though Demeza would repeat his dream debut, but the umpire refused to give a near-dead call against Morton on three. Instead, Gayle and Morton batted with a confidence and talent not shown on tour so far, and brought up the team hundred just before lunch after Gayle had flicked one past the outstretched fingers of Mørk.

Having bowled well before lunch, Wilson got a few minutes extra rest before being called in again, and showed why his bowling average is the lowest of all experienced Cricket Web seam bowlers. The left-armer smacked in balls on a length to Morton, who looked visibly shaken, and eventually attempted to loosen up with a straight hit; it fell to Demeza, and the slide began. Gayle hung around admirably, making 147 before nicking Wilson behind, but before that Chanderpaul, Samuels, Bravo and Ramdin had all given catching practice to the Webheads. Kennett and Demeza wasted the new ball somewhat at Taylor and Lawson, but Wilson returned for his third wicket, rounding West Indies off for exactly 300.

In murky conditions and with a cherry swinging more than Ohio on election night, Lawson got the best of starts, nipping one away from Mørk who went for a golden duck. This prompted a call of the light meter, and the umpires offered the light to Mamesh, who promptly headed off. And with the second day sun came easier batting conditions. Lawson and Taylor strayed once their initial efforts weren't rewarded, Bravo hit Mamesh on the pads and got the only wicket of the morning session, while Taylor was unlucky not to get rid of Young the same way. Instead, Young carried on to 90, and with Dauth and Cloete flaying the bowlers the result was late-night carnage. 188 runs came in a massive final session, where Cloete reached 172 and Wilson struck four boundaries in twelve balls; it also included Dave Mohammed taking two wickets, the simplest of stumpings missed, and the new ball delayed by ten overs because Mohammed was clearly doing stuff with the old one. Yet, Cloete's mammoth knock, not to mention Dauth's blitz of 83, had sent Cricket Web XI into a lead of 147.

Once again West Indies proved apt enough at getting rid of th4e tail, with the final four partnerships providing a meagre 13 runs on the third morning. It appeared, however, that the freak overnight hail had done its damage despite the covers being on overnight; the pitch suddenly contained any number of demons, and with Demeza and Kennett explotiing the new ball as only they can, the result was another carnge. By half two West Indies were 37 for five, and utterly beaten; Pickup then put himself on from one end, finding movement and bounce to finish off West Indies after the customary resistance-stand of 55 between Ramdin and Bravo. Pickup took two wickets either side of tea before Wilson finished off the series, yorking Collymore for eight and ensuring another innings win.

Another drubbing to seal the whitewash.

Excellent batting set that up, makes life easier with the ball when there are runs a plenty on the board :)
