Having seen Lara talking to the bowlers today and Iassume up in Brisbane (I was on holiday in England so I didn't get to see much of it) more so then Chanderpaul, is it far to say he pulls the strings in the team despite not being the official captain?

I'd say so. Chanderpaul has to be one of the weakest captains in recent history. He's not the best player on the team, doesn't have a good cricketing brain, is very quiet, lacks enthusiasm, and is almost completely uninspiring.

High quality innings by both Hayden and Hussey against, what must be said, a fairly ordinary attack.

Hussey is definitely capable of batting in the middle order, is a magnificent fieldsman and apparently has a good brain.

He must be retained.
hahaha, ahhhh...at first glance I thought that said '********'. And yes, it was a very quick glance.

I dont think Chanders really wanted the captaincy. I think it is good that Lara is fielding at mid off / mid on position so he can use his knowledge to help the young bowlers.

very true but i dont know if thats the best option to put Hussey to bat in the middle-order in tests, for me when Langer comes back i'd rather Martyn back & have Hussey on hold for the time being.

2 weeks ago against WI.
On a deck ridiculously in favour of batsmen against a WI attack with only two specialist bowlers (if you're generous enough to count Best as such), a batting allrounder and two part-timers in the first innings. Then, in the second, the best bowler of the first-innings didn't bowl and the attack was reduced to Best and Bravo opening followed by Gayle and Samuels.

http://aus.cricinfo.com/db/ARCHIVE/2005-06/WI_IN_AUS/SCORECARDS/WI_QLD_27-30OCT2005.html

And aside from that, he's averaged 11 for QLD this year.

Not exactly a convincing case for a recall..........

when Langer gets back,i reckon the Aus line up should be

1.Hayden
2.Langer
3.ponting
4.Martyn
5.Hussey
6Hodge
7.Gilchrist
8.Warne
9.Lee
10.MacGill/Bracken
11.Mcgrath

now doesn't that seem a much better side than the one at present?

No-one said it was (the question was whether he was still scoring 100s) but the guy is a class player that should have played many more tests for Aus

And, BTW, he's averaging 40 for the year. You can distort anyone's statistics by removing their best performances.

Martyn has about as much chance of a recall as Lehmann...

I agree on all counts. Chanderpaul should never have been named captain. I've been saying it since long before he was named captain, and people just threw the "he's had success with Guyana" line at me. He was a crap captain with a good Guyanese team (like Ponting with Australia.... KIDDING!..or am I? :p) *stirs*

That said, Chanderpaul has at least as much heart, will, and desire as anyone to play the game.

Ideally I'd like Wavell Hinds to be captain. I think he has the brain to do the job. It's just unfortunate that he can't nail down a solid spot in the team. Maybe if he got the responsibility, he'd pick up his game with the bat. Just to throw that out there.
