Seeing as Lawson has better control than Edwards, I'd be more willing to pick him for the 1st Test. I do hope you're right that MacGill doesn't play, because the West Indies batsmen (bar Lara, Chanderpaul and Sarwan) tend to be hopeless against anything approaching quality spin.
Samules can handle spin. In the West Indies 2002 Tour of India he didn't look so bad in the ODIs against the spinners.

Is Powell actually going to be 100 percent fit for the first test? He didnt bowl in the second innings of the tour match and he left teh feild early in queenslands first innings.
I'd like to think he didn't bowl in the second innings more due to the fact that he didn't have to, and thus they didn't want him exerting himself. There has been no news to suggest he won't be fit.

Tino Best is to raw he will give away boundaries for sure. Lawson has the proven track record hes got pace bounce and accuracy to boot i would play him ahead of dwayne bravo for sure, i actually rate dwayne smith a better bowler than bravo.
Then you're darn near insane, or you just haven't watched Dwayne Bravo bowl much. Bravo is perhaps the smartest bowler on the West Indies team, and bowls with as much heart as anyone in the world. Dwayne Smith is nothing more than a Collingwoodesque bowler. Bravo's space is not up for grabs by a specialist bowler at the moment.

I know its a long tail but against the aussies you need as much fire power as you can get. Im a bit dissapointed Ricardo Powell missed out on the test tour hes never been given a chance but i felt he could have really taken it to the australians wonderful feildsman can bowl a few offies. Hes only 25 odd i bet he will get another chance at test level
Well the Dwayne Smith-Dwayne Bravo comment made me wonder, but now I'm fairly certain you haven't watched much West Indies cricket. Ricardo Powell is a blatantly substandard batsman, both at Test and First Class level. He has all the talent in the world, but zero temperament and shot selection. If he even attempted to bowl against the Australians, he would get hammered beyond belief.

Shocking really.

I'd pick this as my West Indies team.

Gayle
Smith
Sarwan
Lara
Chanderpaul
Samuels
Bravo
Ramdin
Edwards
Collymore
Lawson

Playing spin in ODIs is a FAR different proposition to doing so in Tests. Granted, he did score a century in his only Test innings in India, but he also scored just 76 runs in 6 innings in Sri Lanka before that. Guess who got him out 5 of the 6 times... His name starts with M.

Who knows? He may have improved. Muralitharan's a different class of spinner to Warne. Doesn't mean that he's better because Warne surely is but entirely different styles and different pressures exerted upon them.

No doubt that Samuels has improved as a batsman, as shown by his domestic form of late, but he hasn't faced quality spin since he scored that hundred in India.

Yeah im very bias towards ricardo powell cause i love his game when on song like afridi im an avid supporter of both, i agree his bowling wouldnt be great and overall i agree with your sentiments completely. But i dun agree with you on bravo he had a mad initial seris with the ball against england but his test average has slipped to 36 or so hes just not incisive enough in my opinion we will see how he goes. Wayne Daniel thinks smith can be a quality bowler hes got more pace maybe hes not as good as bravo but he has the potential to be.

Ummm... he played a handful of Tests since his debut series and did so on some of the flattest decks in the world...

As much as I really like Langer and admire him, and in no way want him to be dropped from the side, I hope that he is ruled out of this first test so Hussey does get a go.

Totally agree.

Give another bloke a go.

Langer might be worried Hussey will get a double ton on debut while he sits out the test..... :p

It should have been Phil Jacques. They're crazy to select a 30 year old debutant, ahead of a 26 year old who is a better batsman, in the longer form of the game.

I agree. Hussey won't be around for that long and isn't a wise choice when looking to the future.
