I disagree. I would say Lara or Tendulkar.
No way are you seriose do you ever watch Gilchrist. This man is the fastest scoring batsman in test history his test strike rate is the same as Tendulkars ODI strike rate.

Tendulkar & Lara have all the shots Im not disputing that I have seen them play some amazing shots but Gilly has a more vast range and is more comftable in playing all the shots all the time.

Gilly plays shots like the shot over the keeprs head and recently the Tennis smash down through mid off.

I would probably say Ricky Ponting would be right up there as well he can play every shot in the book wether it is touch or power he really has no limatations ( scored his test runs last year at a strike rate of 70 thats impresive )

Other names that springs to mind who have alot of shots are H. Gibbs and C. Gayle.

I would still disagree. Gilchrist is a fast-scoring player because he attacks all the time (and gets dropped regularly). If Tendulkar or Lara could afford to just go out and attack, they would probably be up there in S/R.

Gilchrist does not get droped alot he had one series were he got droped a hell of alot (In England ) and people seem to get the opinion that he is always like that.

In all seriousness can anyone name a stroke he doesent play well?? I know I can name a few shots Tendulkar does not play that well. ( ok he plays them well but there are people who play them better )

His placement is also amazing and statisticly he scores of more balls than any other batsman so he doesent always just hit 4s.

How many times do you hear commantators saying things like "Gillchrist has the best timeing in world cricket" you hear it all the bloody time it gets anoying.

To me he is the best in that regard by more that just a little I would say he is far and away the best.

Maybe Lara and Tendulkar could have just as good strike rates if they were as aggressive as Gilchrist but they would not avarge anywere near as good as him.
Ohh and another thing Gillchrist makes almost all his runs for Australia in pressure situations hes not the type of batsman who thrives on being given good match situations so he has plenty of pressure to deal with when he makes most of his runs.

Are the selectors blind or something? Adam Hollioake had the season of his life and they pick Irani over him? Why.......??? :!( :!( :!(
Hollioake played for half a season, Irani had a great season for England (and Essex - 60 and 45 with the bat, 20 and 20 with the ball (igoring his ODI performances in that time))

Also, even when he played, Hollioake was averaging about 5 overs a game for Surrey - that is interesting to me.

Not when the shots are well placed, not when it clears the fence so many times, not when he does it successfully innings after innings....
An average of around 30 doesn't suggest he's consistently successful to me.

You may not have said it but you insinuated it.

For example:
It may look like I have, but the fact is I never did actually say it. If this was a trial it would have been thrown out on having no evidence...

I'm going out on a limb and picking Australia today.
No insightful reasons, and I reckon I'm about even money (or 50-50) to be right....

Umm, okay, Ponting to find some form, Lee to bowl some wides...

There's some daring predictions!!

Well mate, Ponting's being rested so I doubt he will get any runs ;)

Some of our players like Stewart and Trescothick have played in just about every match on this tour along with a load of others before this tour, with barely a break. Stewart found it quite funny that the Aussie players were being "rested" as they had hardly had a break...

I predict:

1/ Vaughan to get some runs
2/ Harmison to bowl some wides
3/ England to collapse at some stage in their innings
4/ Michael Jackson to get another nose job
5/ England to win

Take heed! Mr Mxyzptlk has spoken!

Hey I forgot about that. God does love England after all! :D
I hope he stays injured till after the World Cup too...he's got potential...but we don't need him getting canned around in the highest pressure competition of them all...
