Yes, I'd tend to agree with that. There's no place for that kind of thing, especially the racial garbage and it really doesn't help us address the stigma attached to the Aus side. (Along the lines of arrogance, poor sportsmanship and sledge-masters)
Competitiveness is one thing, but racial abuse just plain sucks and it's sad to see a guy like Lehmann (who from all accounts is a great guy) stooping to that level, all be it in his own dressing room.

Yeah, dressing room outbursts are uniquely Australian................right.

It's far from a new trend. I guess no-one here remembers Hansie Cronje's 'stump though the door' here in Adelaide a decade ago.

I think you'll find it's been going on in all international teams (at least) for a very long time. The press are just looking for an Aussie beat-up. To try to pretend it's something new, something unique to one team or something that you wouldn't do (bear in mind we're talking about international cricketers playing for their country; no-one can say they know how they feel) is naive bordering on insulting. It's all too easy to be holier than thou in this situation and until I hear from an independent source that Lehmann's outburst WAS racially motivated, I reserve judgment.

Oh C'mon !! ...he apologized....what other independent confirmation does one need. If some "independent source" now says he didn't do it, I would say that's a plain lie.

The news says 'offensive', not 'racial'. Again, I reserve judgment.

Ya, I have no "beef" with the dressing room outburst per se.
This is what these guys do for a living after all, and a bad decision can be extremely important. As you quite rightly point out Top Cat, it's certainly not confined to us Aussies. It's just the racial aspect that bugs me. Throw stuff, break things, whatever, I can dig that, but don't bring race into it. Enough dramas in the world on that issue without sportsmen adding to it.

The news in cricinfo says this -
From Cricinfo
Australian batsman Darren Lehmann has been severely reprimanded by match referee Clive Lloyd after a racial outburst during Australia's triangular series match against Sri Lanka.
You can reserve your judgement, all you want but IMO the case is closed.

Good point. I'm just wary of the media, especially considering the absolutely shocking coverage biased against the English this year. Our press has surpassed the English press for being able to denigrate a team and players and I just simply don't trust them.

Mind, I wouldn't put a racial slur past Boof (he's from Salisbury here in Adelaide after all; the Bronx of Adelaide!). You never know............I sure hope it was purely a 'heat-of-the-moment' thing. Since he didn't aim it directly at someone, I tend to side with that explanation.

Well we Brits never listen to them, it's allways the same old rubbish about saying we can't play...I thought newspapers were there to make money, not boost writer's egos....

Spot on Rik, but guess who will be the first to jump onto the bandwagon should we start to win, saying we backed them through thick and thin, follow our boys etc etc... they are all Liers and hiporcites...

As for Lehmann, I a pretty sure it was a heat of the momet thing, after all ifit was in the Aussies dressing room who could he have said it to, you don't have any coloured players in your team or coaching staff that I know of???

Unless he aimied it at the Sri Lankans some how, but that doesn't sound like Lehmann and he was polite enough to offer a sorry once he knew he had offened someone. Can't see why he was so upset though he was clearly out ;) :D

Ponting, Hayden and Lee are being rested from the Adelaide match. This will allow for the return of Gilchrist, Symonds and Bracken to the XI.

This is a good thing. The Aussies have already made the finals and one can understand that a couple of them might be a bit jaded. Martyn must be next in line for a break.

Rich, apparently he shouted so loud he was heard in the SL dressing room next door. Gotta be real careful when you say things like that (I don't actually know exactly what he said).

Meanwhile, England are going to break up a partnership which has yielded two century partnerships in two games just to accomodate Vaughan. For ****s sake when will the management learn - we have enough problems right now without ruining something which is working well. We need a number 3, not an opener. At least try him at 3 and if it doesn't work maybe put him opening... :!(

Well said. Too many Australian's have been involved for my liking in incidents against the Sri Lankan's. Mcgrath did it against Jayasuriya. And Murali has been a constant target.

Murali has just said he might give up touring Australia after the Aussie Crowd gave him the new ball treatment. Langer can complain about the Barmy Army giving Lee some stick but it was all good natured...but the Murali saga has been going on for 7 years and it doesn't seem very good natured to me.

Yes this Murali saga in Australia has been going on for too long for it to be classified as anything but malicious.

The Aussie fans should just shut up about it. If they genuinely believe that he is cheating, they can take it up against the authorities(ICC et al.) if they had the balls, otherwise making it into a personal attack just stinks.

Well I see it as just something which has gone beyond the joke. The arguement that the Aussies might bring up about the English fans and Brett Lee is different, there is still a bit of doubt over Lee's action when he strains for that extra yard of pace, Murali has had his action shown to be legal if anyone can be bothered to look.
