Shah runs Stewart out, he had Tresco run out too...

If only they had crossed then Shah could have been put out of his misery...13 off 38 balls now, still without a boundary...

Blackwell comes in at 7, Irani will bat at 8...that seems like a bit of a waste. A bit insulting too. It's all fine giving players games to keep them going for the WC, but Irani needs to get his confidence back, he doesn't need to go into a game and get slogged around again, that's not going to help! He's not taken a Wicket for 2 games now and has conceeded around 100 runs off less than 20 overs in those 2 games. Hollioake, even if he isn't in the squad, would have been a better pick. Pick the team most likely to win, don't try and carry a player who's out of form.

Well, Blackwell's doing his best...

If we lose this by single figures then Rikki Clarke is in severe danger of being removed from the top of my hitlist...

16 OFF 41 !!! Get a move on man, you must be settled by now!

from Cricinfo
38.1 Vaas to Shah, FOUR, short ball, pulled around through square leg, diving save toward the rope at deep backward square can't cut off the boundary
And about time too...

Just a few more now, and maybe you will avoid months of criticism!

Thirteen off the over... 79 required off 11 @ 7.09

Shah nearly runs Blackwell out as well. For his sake I hope he guides us home here...

Come on Ronnie, now's your chance. 68 off 56 @ 7.29
68 off 56 is gettable...but with only Caddick, Anderson and Hoggard to come...will they be able to pull it off?

Irani has crawled onto 2 off 9 balls.

At least Shah's picking up. It's now 8.29 an over. Ronnie! Your supposed to be a big hitter! DO IT!

No! Not a maiden!

Shah's just hit 9 off Jayasuriya so the flames of hope are still flickering (Help... I'm putting all my hopes on someone who I was roundly lambasting 45 minutes ago!).

Now, if we can get after Jayasuriya, the Fernandos or Aravinda we can still do this!

COME ON ENGLAND!

De Silva into the attack, a bit of an odd move there by Jayasuria. Come on...mash 'im for 6 lad!

Oops.

43.2 de Silva to Shah, OUT: short ball is clouted away high in the air out to deep mid wicket where Jayawardene takes a comfortable catch.

England 227/7, Partnership of 10
OA Shah c Jayawardene b de Silva 39 (59b 2x4 0x6)
RC Irani 2* (9b) PA de Silva 3.2-0-17-2

Useless... now, it's Caddick, Anderson, Harmison and Irani.

Miracles do happen!

And de Silva is now on a hat trick after Irani scoops the next ball straight back to the bowler.

We need one more for the bonus point. Now don't do anything stupid...

Irani out next ball, great move here by Jayasuria, Aravinda's on a hat-trick. Irani shows his lack of form again. PLEASE PICK HOLLIOAKE! It's all fine giving players games to keep them in nick for the WC, but when they are so obviously out of form? You've got to win too...

Andy Caddick gets the bonus point. Well done..

Now we only need 10.36 an over. Just a few sixes...
Caddick can hit a few, it's just his mind that stops him and makes him play totally the wrong shot. That's down to a lack of coaching...

Anderson has not scored a single run from 5 balls and he plays a reverse sweep...what on earth is he on? That's more likely to get him out than score runs, especially if your a tailender...

At least he got a run, 1 off 9. Oh for Goughie to come out and slog it around...Caddick and Anderson are just happy to knock it around.

Caddick managed to slog one out of the park for once...but Anderson only scored 1 off 11 balls...that will not win you matches. Harmison again showed that if he put his mind to it he could bat higher than 11.

Ok, I'll try and rate the players from what I've seen on Cricinfo, maybe someone who's seen the highlights or the match on TV could do one too?

Trescothick - A fine 85 and if he had not been run out by Shah, England would have stood a much greater chance of winning.

Knight - 42 runs, but the form he's in he should have carried on after getting in. Partnership with Trescothick still going well.

Hussain - Still thinks he should bat at 3. On this evidence he should think again.

Shah - Started off really slowly but picked up later in his innings before getting out. When he came in the run rate was still within reach but he put pressure on himself and the team and eventually got himself out after leaving himself with too much to do.

Collingwood - Got a wicket but was very expensive, his 3 overs going for 20. Only got 2 runs, still not sure where he fits into this team.

Stewart - Sawn off by Shah before he could get going.

Blackwell - Bowling was a bit expensive and got himself out trying to get the run rate down. Like Collingwood I am not sure where his best position is in this team.

Irani - Totally out of form with the ball. To be fair he is not a number 8 batsman but in this form he looks more like a number 11. Hasn't taken a Wicket in 2 games now, England appear to be carrying him.

Caddick - Bowled well for once with 2-29 off his 10 overs, and showed some spirit when the game was lost by slogging De Silva into the stand. He needs to do this more often though, and until he does he should not be an automatic pick.

Anderson - Again did well with the ball with another 2 Wickets, but was rather expensive. The ability is there to see though. I was not impressed with his batting, 1 off 11 balls is just not good enough, especially in the last overs of a ODI. Also he played an insane reverse sweep after facing 5 balls for no runs...someone tell him it's more likely to get him out than score any runs!

Harmison - Another 9 wides and 2 no balls to add to the collection. If he can't bowl it straight then he shouldn't be in the team, let alone the WC squad! Showed more fight with the bat than most, and with a bit of practise could be taught to slog a quick 20 odd which could be the difference between winning and loosing.

Great work from Jayasuriya....this guy is getting back to his usual self....two 100s in successive matches....SL is back in reckoning here.
