There was no way that was out. Look at the angle the ball takes on the 3rd or 4th frame of the superslow replay. It suddenyl sharply angles upwards, as though it had hit the hard ground and not the fielders soft hands...
It went straight to his finger mate.. That Ponting is a phallus head.. And a hypocrite..

The third umpire should have been called.. There's no question about it..

LOL at Ponting. Wasn't he the same dude that was asking for players to accept the fielders word !!!!! Like Gilchrists noble walking, if its a tight match there is no way they stick to what they preach !!! :@

What a hypocrite !!!!!!!
I don't think he meant, "i'll take the fielders word for it no matter what"

I was under the impression the third umpire could be called.. Can't they?

But if not, Ponting should practice what he preaches and ask the fielder.. I'm sure he would have asked the fielder if Australia had have been in a better position..

Ponting is a real bad ***. Comes in and just takes over. I guess it helps when you have such a good middle order to fall back on.

I'm sure ponting would've asked the other captains on their stance on this issue before the series as he does every series.

If they didn't agree to take the fielders' word and to leave it up to the umpire then it's Sri Lanka's bad luck and Ponting did the right thing.

Given it was such a close-in catch and he had a perfect view of it why should he take the fielders word on it.

As for the law the umps have to be unsighted to call for the 3rd ump

Wasn`t the whole 'agree with the fielder thing' only against England, and then maybe against South Africa? Sri Lanka are in none of this. :D

I think Sri Lanka are going to need some Jayasuriya magic to win thismatch 'cos the Aussies are looking to post a big total.

what a shame to see ponting not walk when it really mattered the most. he championed the argument of "asking the fielder". it sure got thrown out of the window there. what a hypocrite. the umpires also shd have referred it to the 3rd umpire. ohh the virtues of playing @ home.

why? when it was obviously not out, if he saw it hit the turf why would he ask him if he caught it?

What's with the confusion about Ponting? Ponting called for agreements between sides to take the word of the fielder. eg: If you take the word of our fielders, we will take the word of yours, regardless of the circumstances, thus promoting the spirit of the game.

No captain has accepted his offer, so clearly he shouldn't be held to it either. There was obvious doubt about whether or not Jayawardene caught it, Ponting didn't think he did, the umpires couldn't say that he did, and under the rules they cannot go to the third umpire for catches unless they are unsighted.

Get it? Third umpire cannot be called. It's nothing to do with playing at home.

So where exactly is the problem? Ponting stood his ground, as he is entitled to do until the umpires give him out, and the umpires gave him not out. End of story.
