***Official*** VB Series 2006

No way, and I mean no way in hell should Sri Lanka rest players Jason. Seriously with all due respect thats a down right stupid idea, very very stupid.

You guys are 1-0 up in a best of 3 finals series, and the Lankans are playing the 2nd final at the ground they, and their best players are most successful on. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realise that this is the best chance Sri Lanka have of winning the VB Series. The ball is in their court, and hell if they win the toss tomorrow, it'd be their series to lose.

There's too many matches in the preliminary rounds and it shouldn't be a best of 3 final. I'd rather a 5 match ODI series against a team than the current VB series.
i dont mind the best of 3 finals, but the rounds should just be 3 matches againts each side, 4 is too much escpecially if a 5 test series had been played before..

Seriously man, if you even need to consider the notion of SL resting players as a strategic ploy at the SCG, coupled with the notion dropping Arnold to bring in Tharanga, your knowledge of the game comes under serious question.

A) Sri Lanka will not win this series if it goes to a third game, especially if that game is at the ‘Gabba’ of all places. It's all or nothing come Sunday.
Playing 3 Day nighters in a row will affect the SL chances and particularly the older guys, rather than the fit Aussies who are used to a lot of D/N games . Any way SL's better record against Aussies at SCG would favour SL giving it their best shot today. If it went to the 3rd game SL may struggle , but I would say it would have more to do with fitness (or rather the lack of it after 3 day nighters in a row) rather than any thing to do with 'Gabba' .

I would not be foolish enough to say its all or nothing on Sunday. Ok, Man

In fact SL may still be capable of winning it at the Gabba.

B) I can understand dropping Arnold to slot Bandara directly into the side, in fact I’d endorse it, but to bring in Tharanga in any capacity over Arnold is ludicrous. Arnold's scores so far this series 28* (37), 15* (17), 6 (7), 11 (11), 27* (28), 56 (87), 15 (46), 24 (34). Tharanga's scores so far this series 2 (2), 16 (18), 31 (66). Granted, Tharanga hasn't seen nearly as many games, but when you get outshone by Mubarak, you really don't deserve to. Now I think Tharanga is going to be a great player for us, eventually, but he hasn't shown he can step up and make it count. Until he does show that he can, ala Kupugedera with his worthy performances in his two of three shots at the big time, Arnold (who in a perfect world would have been out of the side a few years ago), should always get preference because he does make it happen when it matters.
Arnold at 32 years of age after playing over 230 odd ODIs still struggles to make significant contribution to the Team . In fact even when he makes a significant score it is usually at the expense of sacrificing the run rate (ie a slow strike rate than most others in the Team) . His recent averages and strike rates are far below what his career stats would show (likely most of those were made against weak opposition).
He has thus wasted that position thus blocking other youngsters being given a longer run in the Team.

Tharanga has had very limited opportunities in the VB. His century in NZ showed that once he makes a start he is capable of going onto a big score , unlike Arnold who struggles even after a start to accelerate the run rate or his own strike rate and even struggles to pick singles and rotate the strike throughout this VB . Even on the one or two occasions when he has spent some time in the middle, he gives his wicket away just when he should have started to raise the run rate or make an impact .

This is why we can't afford to waste the opportunity , OK MAN.

Winning the VB may be important , But getting the SL team right for the World Cup is just as important, OK Man.

if sl win today im 100% sure there will be no changes to the squad until the next WC, sad considering that a majority of games end up being a 8 v 11 afair.

2/2 and Marto joins Ponting.

Gilly should seriously stop getting out in the first over of a ODI match. He does this every series.
