nope i knew that the others had been. In fact it was me just trying to draw a link between Healy getting in trouble in here and Gilchrist gettng in trouble in the real cricketing world, in saying that they were both just keepers.

I suppose my choice of words coulda been better, but oh well.

Which, somewhat ironically, is the first sensible thing you've said during our discussion. G'day then, or g'night or whatever it is you say down there.

Good win for Sri Lanka, very much needed . .. This is exactly what cricket australia and channel nine wanted .. .

The top-order batting was formidable against some disenchanted Sth African pace bowling .. However Sri Lanka's lack of a big hitter to provide the extra impetus to the end of the innnings was apparent . . .They probly should have got a few more on the board considering the platform that was laid .. .People like Andy Symonds and Justin Kemp are so important in ODIs . ..

If Sanath decides to go down the order he is the best man to have at 6 or 7.

talking about the match, SL won this one with their old formular for success: Aggressive batting and restrictive spin bowling. SL should keep employing that for the rest of the series if they want to make any impact.

*looks back at all my posts a few pages back*
*grins*

I still think they'd do better with Chandana in the side over Perera though....

I disagree, Sanath is too good a batsmen to play at 6 or 7. He is not a slogger or pinch-hitter, he can construct innings and concentrate for long periods. Anyways this would only be a short term option, he is close to retirement. . ..

Word is the Proteas have called up Van der Wath to replace Kallis. Didn't he play in the County Championship last year...for Sussex, I believe. Someone in the Kemp mould, so not like-for-like replacement.

This VB Series is rapidly turning into one big job-interview jamboree for the second string, with all three teams bringing in new players who they hope will make it to the WC2007.

.
Seems he bowls at a fair clip too. Anyone know what happened to Albie Morkel? He seemed like a pretty big striker of the ball, but seems to have fallen off the radar a bit.

I guess Rudolph is the like-for-like replacement, seeing as he basically took Kallis' spot in the last match, and performed quite well.

Lol, quite true but as long as all sides are doing it its not that bad. Only problem is, SA are doing it because they have to with injuries, rather than through their own choice to experiment. Its obvious they really want to win this ODI series to have some edge over Australia before their next series in a few months.

Yeah, Morkel has hopefully been replaced by 'Hannie van der Wath and Tyrone Henderson, who are at least good cricketers who I feel will do well in international cricket..

Not a bad shout by the UCBSA, would rather have seen the latter called up though!

I think Sanath has a better chance to build an innings if he comes down the order, because his foot movements are too slow for the fast swinging deliveries of Lee and some others.

Mate, that's because they have been playing pretty poorly for a long time and not showing any signs of rising from the Dumps till last night Smith threw them a little lifeline by letting them bat first and then decided to chase under lights.

Even then I really thought SA with their strong line up would do it easily , until they decided to gift SL a couple of wickets with their shocking run outs when 2 batters decided to remain at the same end for no explicable reason . :)

Dude, it's ppl like you that give Sri Lankan supporters a bad name. True supporters support their team even through the tough times. I guess you got lot to learn about that. I don't start saying bad things about the team just cause they been going through bad patch, I support them all they way even in a game that we have no chance winning.

Welcome Hondo, Hondo was/is a legend, so you`re off to a good start. :p

I think the main reason Sri Lanka won, was because of the complacency and bad bowling of South Africa, Mubarak in particular rode his luck. But I hope they can be a force, I love good cricket. Gotta love Bandara!

Katich is out of Friday's game with a groin strain. Anyway, Phil Jacques has been drafted in. Be interesting to see how our entirely new opening combination (I suspect Clarke and Jacques) performs in this match. Brett Dorey will also debut - let's hope, given that he'll be on national TV for the first time, he's had that much-needed dental work done on those unusually large and protruding choppers of his.

:-O

I'd prefer Martyn to open with Jaques, personally, but it's exciting to see him come into the team

I think Martyn IS going to open, which is great. Couldn`t find two better blokes to debut, best of luck to `em.

Yep looks like Martyn to open, which I think is for the best. Has an excellent record there too.
